There is no way these are right.

agreed, Butler beat Richmond but somehow ended up as a lower seed???

They also beat Mt. Tabor, who is listed as being undefeated.

When there are three teams that report undefeated records, head-to-head matches are thrown out. It then comes down to luck of the draw, and in this case, Butler got the 3rd seed. Teams are only allowed to report 10 games, therefore, by playing an endowment game teams area ble to drop a loss.

The way the NCHSAA determines these seedings/matchups makes the BCS look like the most fair and balanced system ever. This is just sad and embarrassing.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association is a JOKE! How do you reward teams with 2 - 7, 2 - 8, 3 - 7, 4 - 6, 5 - 5, 6 - 4 records with a trip to the Playoffs?!?!

It's going to cost more money for these teams to travel than they're going to make at the gates!

Go to 5 Classifications by adding a 5A or copy South Carolina's Big 16 Classification and stop this watered down playoff system!

Richmond has 5 state titles and a winning record of 93% of all its games since it opened in 1972. Its predessesor Rockingham has 8 state titles. Thats 13 state titles in all.
Butler is a newbie. Get ready to get your butt kicked anyway.

If what was said above is true, this system for seeding teams needs to be revised. If a team has a loss they should not be seeded higher than a once beaten team regardless of how many games are reported. It's just silly to make an undefeated team travel in the playoffs to a school they have already defeated earlier in the year.

Butler High School should be THOROUGHLY P.O.ed..... #1 State Ranking in 4A, UNDEFEATED Regular Season, defeated Richmond County already this year but if it comes down to a Butler vs Richmond County meeting then Butler must travel to Rockingham!

Would someone in the Charlotte- Mecklenburg School System grow some balls and get these CMS Schools out of the NCHSAA!

9 out of the 16 Western 4AA Playoff teams in the bracket are CMS Schools.

Why not drop out of the NCHSAA, form three conferences with only Mecklenburg County Schools, allow them to play 3 non conference schools which could be schools from York County,SC, Chester County, SC, Spartanburg County, SC, Greenville County, SC, Cherokee County, SC and be done with the non-sense that the NCHSAA dishes out time and time again?!?!

Doing this will save money for CMS whose cash strapped anyway, start re-establishing better city rivalries, keep the monies from the gate instead of having to send most to the NCHSAA, establish better city rivalries.

To top it off, the Charlotte City Champion could play against the SC Big 16 Champion at Bank of America Stadium the week before the Shrine Bowl since there's a one week gap for SC schools between their State Championship Weekend and the Shrine Bowl.

The 4AA champion will come out of the west again this year, that is for sure.

Butler should be mad, Richmond should thank their lucky stars that they won't have to come to Matthews. Mallard Creek should thank theirs too.

This playoff seeding system is a joke. They must be done by the same people who designed the BCS.

Richmond Raider fan. It does not matter who we play or where we play, We are happy to be playing. NC High School system, is okay with us. Everyone should quit complaining about where they play. Shut up and play ball.

Tehre are 21 teams in the 1A classifiction with losing record, 4-6 or worse. Of those there are 4 teams with 2-8 records. This is a joke right.

The highest seed Mallard Creek will play before the regional final is #6 Garinger. #3 Butler will face the best team in Greensboro (#4 Page) in the 2nd round.... sounds fair.

Richmond Raider fan - Your town has 1 High School's finances to worry about while we have 20 to worry about in Charlotte. Get over it? No such thing when the system is screwed.

I agree, this is a joke especially the 1A Playoff Seedings.

Are you freakin kidding me, Charlotte Catholic is NOT the number 1 seed in the 3AA. Excuse me Brown is not undefeated, this is a joke. Mecklenburg county schools should boycott the whole damn thing. Butler a 3 seed, below a team they already beat. No respect from the jack asses that run this thing. What a joke. Langston you better write something about this travesty.

Funny how everyone from Charlotte is complaining about the seeding process. For those of you new to the process (parents of current high schoolers), this system has been this way for years! Stop with all the me-first thinking. I am from Fayetteville and played for 71st in the late 90's. We beat a #4 ranked South View team in the regular season and then had to travel to their place in the playoffs due to a coin toss which gave them a higher seed. It wasn't fair then and it isn't fair now...but that is how they've always done it. It has nothing to do with a bias against CMS schools so please stop that lame battle cry. I am just as shocked as everyone else that Butler is ranked as the #1 overall seed.

Correction...I am just as shocked as everyone else that Butler is NOT ranked as the #1 overall seed. Sorry about that!

Fighting Falcon, I don't think it's a thing of the world against Charlotte Schools but it's really about time that our School System leaders step up and break away from the NCHSAA.

From a financial stand point it's not beneficial for us. The only thing that comes out of it is a State Championship Trophy which rivalries bring more attendance to our schools, not traveling on the road.

Independence won 7 straight State Championships and all they have to show for it are the banners, State Trophies and a new scoreboard.

Being in the NCHSAA IS NOT financially beneficial to CMS schools. We have 20 high schools which strains the budgets of most of those 20 schools Athletic Budgets. 21 High Schools if we include Charlotte Catholic which plays in the public school sector of athletics although they're a private school.

RICHMOND SENIOR HAS 7 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Anonymous said...

Richmond County has 7 since 1972, Independence won 7 STRAIGHT!!!!!!
To be honest, with everything that's being put in to these young men in Charlotte these days (working with trainers, personal football mentors, Panthers and other former/retired NFL players working with the players), I'm not sure if another school in NC will ever win another 4AA State Championship other than Charlotte schools.

Which could be a benefit to those other schools in NC for Charlotte Meck Schools to leave the NCHSAA.

Richmond county got DRUGGGGG by Butler this year and should have lost to 5 - 5 Providence @ Richmond's stadium this year.

Charlotte's High School Athletics programs are on a different level than other areas now. Really there's no longer a comparison.

I want to coach in the 1-AA division if all I have to do is win one game all year and go to the playoffs. (See.. Bessemer City 1-9). That pretty much answers how screwed up the system is.

Anonymous said...

I can understand the cost of travel for games, but it comes down to fan support. Richmond County has a large turnout for every game (home or away). In Charlotte there are so many places to go on Friday night, so high school football is not number one. In Richmond County, (like most small towns), THE FOOTBALL GAME IS NUMBER ONE). There are good teams in both areas, but money is needed to maintain programs. Hope we get to see you in Charlotte in forth round.

Anonymous said...

why does everyone hate on Richmond? If your team is any good, they should win no matter where they play at. So stop complaining and let the teams sort it out.

Anonymous said...

We hope the state champ comes out of the west, but don't count out the east yet. It ain't over until it is over. I can remember when New Bern put one on Independence. I'm a Raider fan and hope the west wins (pulling for Richmond or the west representative). CMS is no better than other schools, both have good teams and each year brings new talent, (new power houses). Enjoy the games and be a good sport. Right now, Richmond, Butler and Mallard Creek all have a rough road to the final game and don't count out Page.

I can promise you it's a "us against the world" mentality...people on internet boards in Fayetteville are saying the exact same thing you are saying here. The NCHSAA sucks and is out to get Cumberland County schools by matching 71st against Jack Britt in the 2nd round (granted they both win)! Believe me, it's not just a CMS problem. People all over this state have issues with how the NCHSAA conducts the playoffs every single year. Hopefully, they will squash this pod system after this season.

Anonymous said...

If there is a good team in your group, accept it. You would most likely have to play them later to end up in the final game. As a Raider Fan, I say bring them on, "lets get it over" After first round, there are not many easy games (in fact the first round is not a cake walk). Lets have fun and support our teams.
