Why the 3AA and 3A playoffs are toast and why we should have a "Super Class" championship

I’m ready to lay down a bet: Charlotte Catholic (3AA) and West Rowan (3A) are going to win state titles.
We can stop the playoffs in those classes.

Let’s just have the Cougars play West for the overall 3A class championship.

Speaking of that, how cool would it be for the NCHSAA to shorten the season one week, go back to a 10-game schedule, and add a week to the playoffs?

That would allow the single A champs play the double A champs the week after the state title game. I’d play each “super class” title game in a geographical area close to at least one of the schools.

I think the schools -- and the association -- could make a fortune off that. I'd try to sellout each game beforehand. If they were, or were within 10 percent, I'd televise the games, too, earning further revenue.

That's a great idea, I wouldn't give the victory to catholic just yet....they will have to play AL Brown in the quarterfinals at AL Brown, but that should a revenge game from the 08' quarterfinal game where AL Brown beat us at our place.

The season is four games too long already. Cap the regular season at 10 games. Eliminate any team from playoff consideration that hasn't won at least 7 games. Period. I only checked one class -- 4A. By using this criteria 17 of the 32 4A teams would be gone. It's probably similar in the other classes.

That's how you save your one round, enabling you to add another game.

My two cents: Catholic's defense would have more success stopping West Rowan than West Rowan's defense would of stopping Catholic.

I'd love to see that game though.

CMS should end it's affiliation with the NCHSAA and form conferences made up of CMS Schools, have a City Champion and then that City Champion play either the SC 4A State Champ or NC 4A State Champ.

This idea would create the most revenue.

Great idea Langston. I've long thought the same thing of class vs class in the ultimate playoff game. as a catholic fan i hope you're right about your bet. Go Coogs!

I watch you say these things on NewsChannel 36 and it infuriates me. Should A.L. Brown, South Point, Hibriten, Burns, and everyone else in the brackets just give up? Should they start preparing for basketball now, just because you declare it over? Are their seasons meaningless? Should everyone that has to go to West Rowan in the next three weeks just forfeit?
Think about what you are saying to the kids at other schools. It does each one of them a disservice. It's why Butler has called you out in regards to your Mallard Creek comments.
To paraphrase Dennis Green, if you want to crown them, then crown them! I would like to see the games played on the field before you start giving out trophies. Think about what you say!
My goodness, I hope you actually read this...

Langston won't I've said the same thing basically on a numerous amount of his "blogs".......most of the time he has no idea what he's talking about either. I'm pretty sure my a ninth grader knows more about high school football then this clown does. Langston think before you write, have you even watched half of the teams in 3A and 3AA play?

There shouldn't be a game between any of the A and AA champs in any of the classes. And there is no real reason to go back to 10 regular season games, either. You can keep 11 games, and count all eleven, and eliminate the split in classes, the way the playoffs USED to be - 32 teams in each class, 4 state champions. No seeding, set playoff spots for conference champs and 2nd and 3rd place teams (and maybe 4th place for large conferences). That was a fair system.

Can not wait to see the team from Lawndale the BURNS HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS drop the bomb on West Rowan.. The Falcons would not win half there games if they played in Cleveland County..... Give them what you want but the game will be played, and you will see.......... GO BURNS HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS......

I can see you think that West Rowan will automatically win. Even though they have a 10-0 record, I see no powerhouse teams that they have even been put up against. Examples: Concord, A.L. Brown, West Meck. The reason the playoffs are created is due to situations like West Rowan where they really aren't matched up against tough teams until the playoffs where other teams have a much tougher schedule. That's why you see so many upsets in the playoffs. So how is West Rowan gonna feel when they get the Bomb dropped on them. GO BURNS BULLDOGS!!!!!!!!!!

By no means am I gonna take anything away from West Rowan but who have they played?? No tough games at all..Come down to Cleveland County and play some of these teams..How can you go ahead and hand the title to them? We're not overlooking Asheville and any of the others at all but look at the schedules..I feel a bomb fixing to drop over Rowan County..soon..very soon!!! GO BURNS BULLDOGS!!!

I think Hibriten might have something to say about West Rowan's chances.
