Team disqualified from football playoffs for fighting

South Brunswick High School defeated Southern Wayne on Friday night in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A football playoffs, but in the game South Brunswick was assessed three ejections for fighting.

By NCHSAA rules, "Teams in the following situations will not be allowed to participate in the playoffs: --a team whose players or coaches accumulate three or more individual ejections for fighting...if a team hits either threshold (total ejections or ejections for fighting) during the playoffs, it will be disqualified from further participation in the playoffs."

South Brunswick is appealing the decision based on that rule to the NCHSAA Executive Committee on Tuesday morning, so there is no resolution to the situation yet. We will keep you advised of further developments.

If they attend South Brunswick in Southport, they are way too ignorant to get into Carolina. They sound like
Wolfneck material or Gameneck prospects. Southport sucks.

Spoken like a true Heels fan. Post reeks of classless, lacks respect, and elitist remarks.

GC - is it sunny in Gastonia today?

Incredible that UNC & NC State fans turn this into something about them.....grow up!!

The root problem in these incidents and there have been a few this year is the lack of control by the officiating staff. Yes Coaches and players are accountable but I would be willing to bet that poor control and officiating was the biggest contributor. The officiating program needs a review.

Clearly you have never stepped foot on the UNC campus. There are just as many rednecks there as there are at NCSU or USC. UNC isn't hard to get into at all unless you are from out of state. UNC is a middle of the pack academic school in the ACC. UNC is much closer to Clemson or NCSU than they are to Duke or Virginia.

Interesting what high school football has come to. Appealing fights during a game - not just 1 but 3 ejections (way more than should be tolerated). Fans (Richmond) sitting on Visitor side of field - and we all know that there's only one reason for this - to promote problems. Both of these issues start with the coaching staff and ADs - and should be handled by them. Do you see this in college football? Rarely. Do you see it in the NFL? Rarely. The NCHSAA shouldn't even have to deal with these things - but schools like these can't, or won't, step up, accept responsibility and fix the problem themselves like QUALITY staff's do. I will ALWAY put these types of issues on the coaches...ALWAYS.
