Which Meck County team joins the Sweet 16 for the first time this year?

Welcome Vance to the Sweet 16 for the first time this season.

The Cougars (8-3) locked up the No. 2 seed from the I-MECK 4A conference – behind unbeaten and nationally ranked Mallard Creek – with Friday’s 29-24 win over West Charlotte.

It was Vance’s second straight win over the Lions in the past two seasons. This year, Vance has won four in a row and 7-of-8, losing only to Mallard Creek. Vance also lost to nationally-ranked Butler and to regional power Indian Trail Sun Valley on the road.

-- 3A Lenoir Hibriten dropped from No. 7 to 12 after being upset 21-20 in the Northwestern 3A/4A conference championship by unranked Alexander Central, a 4A that has won six straight.
-- Indian Trail Porter Ridge moved up one spot, to No. 7, and Lawndale Burns (No. 10 to No. 8) and Kannapolis Brown (No. 12 to No. 10) each jumped two spots.

Yeah- Hibriten screwed itself over by playing down to a team it should have beaten easily.
As for Piedmont, yes, you won the Rocky River title, and got passed over again. I don't know what to tell you.
The good news is this for everyone: these rankings no longer matter. What matters now are the playoff matchups. No matter how horrid the brackets are, they are the hand that has been dealt. Get out there and get yourself a 5-game winning streak, and stand tall at season's end.

I'll tell you this much, if Berry had won out and were conference champs they would be 12 by now. Remember, they were 14 before Monroe beat them and then we went to their house and beat them but get no props. You decipher the subtle message. I bet he regrets putting us on here to begin with but he thought he was setting up a sweet 16 matchup for end of year. Take us off this list it sucks.

Piedmont beats exactly ZERO of the other fifteen teams on this list. Quit whining.

Yes, I agree. Take us (Piedmont) off the list. We do not play to be on a list, we do not support our team just because we are on a list. We just love our football team and enjoy seeing our community come out and support our team. We will see what happens Friday night. We take on West Stanly HS and it should be a great game. Again, we do not care if there is much press or TV coverage. Just watch us from week to week and see what happens.
