South Caldwell joins Observer Sweet 16 poll

Welcome 4A South Caldwell to the Charlotte Observer’s Sweet 16 high school football poll.

Checking in at No. 16, the Spartans are unbeaten at 7-0 and have won five games by shutouts.

South Caldwell running back Zac Pollard ran for 232 yards on 21 carries in last week’s 55-0 win over Fred T. Foard. It was Pollard’s fifth straight 200-yard game. He has 1,559 yards on 127 carries this season.

-- East Lincoln (7-0), No. 16 last week, beat Lincolnton (2-5) 13-8 last week, but fell out of the poll, as did West Rowan (5-2). East Lincoln QB Garrett Young, averaging 311 yards passing per game, suffered a knee injury on his team’s third series.

its a miracle indy is 6-1 with the drama going among the adults.........

You better be 3A or 4A (or IND) or your NOT getting in!!

Indy drama amoung adults? The parents aren't playing football, the kids are.......

First time in the history of polls that a team wins and falls out of the thing...

I am going to say this and be done with it! Whatever your class is means absolutely nothing! East Lincoln is 2A school and used to smash South Caldwell which is now a4A school! The people who do the rankings know nothing about classification and these rankings are based off of favoritism! Rock Hill Northwestern is ranked fourth with 2 losses! A school like South Caldwell and East Lincoln would never have the chance to be ranked in the top spot due to complete favoritism for the most talked about schools! Don't get it twisted Butler and South Pointe definitely deserve their rankings, but I can bet you East Lincoln could beat any of the teams in the "Weak 16"!!!!!!!!!

East Lincoln's Young will be back soon you can count on it!!!

Indy sucks and how does a 2 loss team stay that high....get a clue people.

Not talking about adult parents at indy, talking about administration, ad, head coach, oc(head coach in waiting) this circus is a reality show waiting for a camera....

I don't have a problem with a (2) loss Northwestern team being ranked b/c they certainly deserve to be in the top 16; but how in the world do you lose and move up four spots?

Stanford ranked# 21 bets USC ranked#2......Stanford is ranked ahead of USC now so explain to me why Country day is ranked below Catholic ? Is it: 1. It was a home game for country day and catholic would of won at home.......no. Was it that catholic always beats country day? No.......catholic is 2-7 the last 9 times they meet....Our coach is worth at leat a td anytime we play catholic

What about Rocky River they should be in the sweet 16 or getting some kind of consideration.
