South Meck's C.J. Thompson sets new Meck County record against Myers Park Friday

South Mecklenburg senior wide receiver C.J. Thompson set a new single-game Mecklenburg County record with 301 yards receiving in a 41-33 loss to Myers Park Friday. South Meck, down at one point 35-7, rallied to make the game close as Thompson had a huge game.

Thompson, who has a scholarship offer from Coastal Carolina, caught 19 passes and had three touchdowns. He also had a two-point conversion. He had three additional touchdown pass receptions called back for penalty. His yardage broke the 30-year-old record of 271 yards set by former Independence star Red Springs, and was the most since Berry's Marquise Buckman had 265 in 2009.

Thompson's 19 receptions are also believed to be a new county record. It ties the second-highest mark in state history, tying North Rowan's Kenny Beck, who had 19 catches against Davie County in 1966. The state record for catches is 25 set by South Johnston's Deangelo Ruffin against Harnett Central in 2004.

Also in Friday's South Meck-Myers Park game, South QB Alex Adams threw for a school-record 390 yards, completing 27-of-50 attempts.

What?

Also, what is with the two numbers in the same year for multiple players?

Read slowly. .... The first paragraph makes perfectly good sense to me.

Also, the records in the list are PER GAME, not per season. Therefore, it's not only acceptable but logical that a single great player had more than one great game in one season.

How did South Meck have 35 points at one time but lost 41-33?

Yes, stats are PER GAME and make perfect sense.

My God... literacy rate in Charlotte is on a downward spiral obviously. Re-read that first paragraph before posting ignorant comments. It clearly says that South Meck was down. Matter of fact, "South Meck, down at one point 35-7.."

My God....good thing the Observer changed the first paragraph to say "South Meck" instead of "Myers Park". The original poster caught the error and they changed it.
