Victory Christian coach John Pratt challenged his girls to score 200 points.
They didn’t get there, but they did win another state title, their third straight and fourth in five years by scoring 184 points. Cary Christian was a distant second with 83.
"This year our slogan was, 'Don’t run from the workout, run to it,'" said Pratt, who has led Victory to seven overall state titles in boys (2008, 2009, 2010) and girls since taking over in 2008. "It's not me, I just try to motivate. It’s the kids. This one was special, because everybody came out and worked hard."
Leading Victory were Courtney Thomas, Kierra Davis, Mictasha Mickle and Kianna Goodson and Tyreon Gaddis.
Thomas won the 100 (12.59), 200 (26.74), and teamed with Tiffany Martin, Onesti Barnett, Jordan Osborne and Bobbi Mayfield to win the 400 relay (53.74) and Martin, Mickle, and Spring Williams to win the 800 relay (1:47.83). Mickle won the 400 (1:00.67) and was second in the 100 (13.07) and 200 (26.79), Davis won the triple jump (33-2.5) and high jump (5-2), and Gaddis was second in the 400 (1:01.22) and triple jump (32-0.75).
Westchester Country Day won its second straight boys title, 118-94 over Victory Christian. Davidson Day was fourth (70) and Gaston Day was seventh (34).
Area boys' winners were: Davidson Day’s Jordan Brown in the 100 (10.82) and 200 (21.79) and Ricky Smith in the shot put (43-8.5) and discus (120-9). Brown also teamed with Miles Boone, Jordan Young and Aaron Seward to win the 800 relay (1:31.82) and Victory Christian’s Josh Harris, Javaris Caldwell, Jacob Sims and Avery Walker won the 400 relay(44.81).
