Kenny Burr named boys basketball coach at Gaston Day

Kenny Burr is the new boys basketball coach at Gaston Day School, taking the job after Eric Davis had a change of heart.

Davis, the former successful coach at Hopewell High, accepted the job last month but changed his mind over the Memorial Day weekend. He will stay at West Brunswick High in Shallotte.

Burr is a former director of basketball operations at Winthrop. He was there from 2008-2012. In the spring, he coached the 17-and-under Upward Stars AAU team. The team was 28-4.

“Kenny is an oustanding young coach that relates extremely well with kids,” said Thomas Ryan, program director for the Upward Stars and head boys basketball coach at Dorman (SC) High. “He has a strong basketball mind and loves working with kids."

Burr will teach physical education at Gaston Day.

Where are the people that said that Eric Davis was a "great guy that cared for his players?" Eric Davis is very sleek, PERIOD. Change of heart? Whatever. NEXT.

Their best player went to Belmont Abbey, the next best went to Northside. The one that went to United Faith shot 27% last year.
