The N.C. High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted to allow Berry to leave the Rocky River conference and return to the Charlotte-based ME-GA 7 next season.
Berry, located near uptown Charlotte, will join Charlotte Catholic, East Gaston, Garinger, Harding, Olympic and West Mecklenburg.
Waddell was formerly a member of the conference, but Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is closing Waddell next fall.
For the past two seasons, Berry has played in the Rocky River, a collection of 1A and 2A schools primarily in the Union County area.

Why? No other school ever did that in the past? Favors? Maybe every team who dont like to get outside their lil safe bubble needs to whine and cry to Chapel Hill. Pathetic. U only had 2 more yrs.
You are correct that schools stay in conferences for 4 years. However, when a school's enrollment reaches well over the requirements for smaller school conferences, petitions to move "up" are allowed. Berry is not a 2A school this year, and with the addition of the STEM program from Harding next year, the school will be nearing 4A. There has been no whining, or crying at Berry. The long travel (as much as 1 hour and 45 minutes to opposition) was taken in stride, especially during the hard financial times of the last year or more, came with a higher price tag than what most schools in our area spent. So, please, before you criticize Berry, make sure you know all the facts.
Thank you for your explanation. Why do some people jump to conclusions without either knowing the facts or are they just negative minded? Encourage students, not discourage them!!
