Lawndale Burns joins Sweet 16 football poll

Click here for video with West Rowan coach Scott Young

Welcome Lawndale Burns High to the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 poll.

The top nine spots remained the same, but former No. 10 Marvin Ridge lost to a ranked team for the second straight week and fell out of the poll. That allowed Charlotte Country Day to move up two spots to No. 10 and allowed the Bulldogs from Lawndale to get ranked for the first time this season.

Burns (7-1) has won seven straight games since a 42-19 loss to Boiling Springs Crest (5-2).
The Bulldogs have topped 40 points in six of their seven wins.

It's about time Burns gets into the sweet 16.....they have only beat the wheels off of everyone except crest this year....not only have they won with the 6th hardest schedule in 3a, but they have not even been close to losing since crest.

I really can't think of anything wrong with this poll. It is crowded at the top, that's for sure. One -error- South Caldwell is now 7-1 after being drubbed by Hibriten Friday, the first team South played with a winning record.
Looking forward to the South Iredell/Newton-Conover game in two weeks- that may be the only team I would think should be in the poll.

Piedmont should ATLEAST be getting votes. They're 7-1 2A school and the 1 loss was AT undefeated 4A Porter Ridge. They've beaten everyone else to a bloody pulp.

The bad things about polls are the disparity in levels and schedules.Big difference between 2A and 4A BIG DIFFERENCE.
