West Charlotte All-American center Kennedy Meeks told the Observer Monday night that he will play college basketball at Georgetown or North Carolina.
ESPN national recruiting analyst Dave Telep ranks Meeks the nation's No. 19 overall recruit and the No. 1 center. Meeks is 6-foot-9 and 285 pounds.
Meeks has led West Charlotte to three straight N.C. 4A Western Regional championship games and two straight N.C. 4A state finals. West Charlotte won the 2011 state title with Meeks as MVP.
Meeks said he was thinking about making a final decision this month but said he may not be ready by then.
He did say, however, that his college basketball future will be with the Tar Heels or Hoyas.
"I just felt like I had the best opportunity with those two," Meeks said of UNC and Georgetown. "If I was to stay two years and leave (for the NBA), I know I could come back and still get my education. Basketball-wise, both schools have good coaches and great teams."

2 years and leave for the NBA? good luck. stay humble and stay healthy and maybe you wont be the next Sean May
285 lbs?..better learn to push away from the dinner table before you get NBA dreams
This guy can play and I'd love to see him be a Tar Heel. Too many great athletes from the Charlotte area have slipped away to schools outside the state. The Heels would love to have this "home grown" talent I am sure.
Good luck young man. Go Heels!!!
If you want an education go to UNC or Georgetown, If you want to go to the NBA you should of say screw school and gone to Kentucky. Right now Kentucky are the best at preparing players for the NBA. However, I don't think Kentucky offered him.
If you want a diploma go to UNC. If you want an education go somewhere else.
Both are great choices for a fine young man. Meeks is an example of a true student athlete.National honor society, school leader and works in the community!!! We are so Proud of him at West Charlotte. Our school is rich with student athletes like him, but the media does not want to recognize them. Good Luck young man!!
Meeks think of the Television Market the ACC will have when Pittsburg and Notre Dame enter the league. Playing at UNC will put you into homes from Miami, Fl to Boston, MA and as far west as Chicago. You want to be seen by scouts then UNC provides you that opportunity.
This is addressed to the push away from the table comment. You have only seen him in his high school career, Kennedy has never been a small boy ever since kindergarten, so if you don't have anything positive to say about a CHILD then get a life!!
Yes, uncalled for! Great basketball player and I hear an even better young man. Hope he chooses Carolina!
