Albemarle, Crest join Sweet 16 (and Meck County football standings)

Traditional powers Albemarle and Crest are back in the Sweet 16 as we head into the final week of the regular season.

Rock Hill Northwestern (6-3) and Salisbury (8-2) fell out of the poll this week, opening up slots for Albemarle’s Bulldogs and Crest’s Chargers. Also, 4A Olympic moved up one spot to No. 10 after rallying from 14 points down in the second half to beat Berry 41-34. Olympic plays at No. 3 Catholic Friday.

Albemarle, the two-time reigning N.C. 1AA champion, was ranked in the preseason, but dropped out after losing 9-7 in its season opener to West Stokes, a 2A team. West Stokes is now 10-0. Since that loss, Albemarle has won nine straight games. Two have been relatively close: a 21-14 win at 3A Mount Pleasant and a 27-14 win over 1A West Montgomery.

In the past four weeks, however, Albemarle has outscored opponents 195-9 with two shutouts. Albemarle plays traditional rival South Stanly (8-2, 5-1) for the Yadkin Valley championship Friday.

Crest, which got to the N.C. 3AA championship game last season, started this year 1-2, but has won seven straight games since then. The Chargers (8-2, 5-0) will play No. 4 South Point (9-0, 5-0) for the Big South 3A championship Friday.

You got to be kidding. Why does Crest make the Sweet 16 over Shelby? Let's see who beat Shelby:
AL Brown (#8 in your poll), Lincolnton (#13 in your poll) and Freedom (#15 in your poll). Now who did Shelby beat? Oh yeah, CREST. This is a joke. The CO loves and adores Crest and tries to include them at any chance they can. Not even an on the bubble! Ridiculous.

No issue with the actual teams in the poll but how is Ardrey Kell at 6-3 in the "On the Bubble" category and Marvin Ridge, at 8-1, with their only loss to number 5 Porter Ridge, not listed ? Did I mention that Marvin Ridge won AT Ardrey Kell ?

Hmmm...Langston Worst, I see a bit of a discrepancy here. Of course, this doesn't surprise me, since I've been seeing this since early August.

I don't see Charlotte Catholic ANYWHERE on this Top 10 list, and they haven't been ranked ahead of Porter Ridge ALL YEAR...except in your mind. South Point (Belmont) and Butler are toss-ups in the standings with us, and I will not dispute Mallard Creek for top billing.

The Pirates finish up the season with a date/spanking against Sun Valley...oh, the team YOU had ranked in the Preseason Top 15.

Langston Worst...yes, you are.

Congrats, Porter Ridge on your 49-7 win last Friday! Go Pirates!

I guess I didn't expect any difference given your track record all season. Luckily SP will get a 4th Sweet 16 team on Friday. I doubt a victory will be enough to change the rankings again, but then we'll get to see who does what in the playoffs...

Shout out to Mooresville. All they've done is play one of the toughest schedule's in the state, including Mallard Creek, Burns, and W. Rowan. Although they're 1-2 against the above mentioned, they've beaten everybody else on their schedule, including #12 W. Rowan. You put their strength of schedule up against some of those other teams in your poll and see where they stack up.

MaxPreps rankings is just a flawed algorithm. Butler isn't the 7th best team in the state, and Mallard Creek isn't the 2nd best team in the state. They are 1 and 2. Just like Porter Ridge isn't the 3rd best team in state. That's why they have playoffs though.

West Rowan is only in the poll because the are a defending 3 time state champion. No other reason they should be in the poll. The NPC is a joke. Mooresville beat West and has played one of the toughest schedules anybody on this list has.

Yes, that's why they have the Playoffs! Langston Worst's rankings are flawed. Porter Ridge will look forward to taking on Butler, Independence, and any other 4A Schools. You shouldn't flap your gums when you haven't seen the product. It will be that much sweeter when the Pirates send your team to a watery grave. Oh well, that's why they have they playoffs! See you soon, chump!

Go Pirates!

Didn't Porter Ridge barely beat Providence Day? That's really impressive. A team that only scored 3 points against Country Day almost beat Porter Ridge, which is a team that I assume you think is top 5 in the country. And, no it doesn't matter it was father-son, and no, Providence Day isn't full of kids they recruited.

Porter Ridge plays 1a, 2a, and 3a teams, what a joke. They will aviod the big boys in the playoffs too. If they want repet they should schedule MC, Butler, and Indy and not 1a teams next year.

Porter Ridge may not play the big schools in the area, but they play schools in their conference who have played those schools. Everyone was soo pumped to see AK beat butler..... Marvin Ridge beat AK.... Porter Ridge crushed Marvin! PR is right on track to go deep in the playoffs. They schedule teams for their season so they can gain momentum, work on their offense, give their defense looks they will see in the playoffs, that my friend is smart! Get a high seed and be polished enough to play against the "big" teams and beat them when they count!

Porter Ridge is going to have fun beating the socks off teams here in Charlotte. All of you sorry sacks here are going to call it luck, bad calls, whatever.

That's sooo funny, regarding the Providence Day victory. Just Win, Baby! 10-7 and you want to bring up 1 game; how pathetic can you be. The Pirates Defense is only giving up 7 points per game in its last 6 games alone. The Pirates have outscored their opponents 400-103 for the Season.

The Anonymous at 8:36pm and 8:47pm better either be Butler or Independence fan...or else YOU ARE THE JOKE! So, if you don't have a dog in this fight, does your dumb redneck opinion even matter? You'll be sitting home with a thumb up your butt after Friday Night, anyways! You can cheer for Porter Ridge week after week throughout November and beyond.

That is why we have the Playoffs! Again, for 4A, Only Mallard Creek, Butler, and Independence need comment...the rest of you losers, go home!

I am loving this with the Porter Ridge fans calling everyone else rednecks. First of all you are cheering for a public school. Second of all, it isn't even in Mecklenburg County. By definition you are the rednecks. I'm sure you think you are high society driving around in your leased Hummer and living in a 2,500 sf house with a brick face and vinyl siding, but trust me, you're still a redneck.

Hey anon 8:48...you're a Doomazz! Most of us who reside in the Porter Ridge area are Northerners!

No wonder you lost the freakin' war! What an imbecile! How's that busing coming along, Enos? Are you still force kids to "integrate" against their wishes?

Are you able to still field a football team in Mecklenburg County after 20% of your 9th Graders FLUNKED? You're probably another fine product of CMS, aren't you Enos? BWAHAHAHAHA!

Gee, I know my area is well above the State standard for the SAT Scores. All of us already know how pathetically poor the students performed on their SAT Scores in Mecklenburg County, don't we Enos? No, Enos, you can't move your house on wheels to Union County...unless you're headed to South Cackolacky.

Porter Ridge is so looking forward to this year's playoffs. Again, unless you're cheering for Mallard Creek, Independence, or Butler, just go away...you SUCK!

Go Pirates!!!

Porter Ridge dismantled both Marvin Ridge and Weddington. Both of those teams beat Ardrey Kell. Ardrey Kell came up just 3 points short of Butler. Ergo, Porter Ridge would probably beat Butler. Oh yeah and the Pirates are going to curbstomp Sun Valley on Friday.

Also, do you guys really want us to think that freaking Albemarle would handle both Ardrey Kell and Marvin Ridge? Come on man.

I'm assuming 10:50 and 11:03 are the same people so I will address them as such. No I am not a product of CMS, but based on how you type and form arguments I can assume you attended an even worse school system. I'm guessing there is no college degree either. The fact you claim the to be a northern transplant, yet live in Union County tells me that if you have a job it is not an important one or well paying one. Clearly you couldn't afford Myers Park or Eastover, but that you couldn't swing a middle class place like Piper Glen or Ballantyne with the rest of your compatriots is pretty telling.

As for the logic of beating Butler-- that same logic would mean that you'd probably lose to Country Day. A school with much higher SAT scores, and not to mention a team of kids whose parents are probably your boss' boss.

Anonymous said...

Also, OR has the lowest SAT scores in Union County. Based on the 2010 scores, which don't include the writing section, Union County averaged 1034. Providence had a 1157 average and MP had an 1149. Hell, Butler was 1 point behind the highest scoring Union County school.

Hey Enos, My University Degrees blow yours away by miles, rebel yell. Also, way to go genius on doing you due diligence, as it pertains to location, location, location. Tell me, Enos, What County has grown the fastest in NC over the past. Here's an excerpt from WRAL.com...

"Census numbers released Thursday show eight North Carolina counties are among the nation's fastest-growing. Union County near Charlotte is 7th on the list and number 1 in the State of North Carolina."

Now then, let's compare your Property Taxes to mine...BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Next, let's compare crime rates, OR let's see if there are any issues with busing ,your education, No Child Left Behind...hmmm...you lose!
You doomazz! I studied Urban growth and development while in College. Why do you think I moved to the Indian Trail area almost 18 years ago? I am used to living 20 to 30 miles away from the city's epicenter or core. It's called not living with the problems in Mecklenburg County! There is NO WAY you ever got past a GED, Enos; you wouldn't know the first thing about studying or research.

I get it...you're a Tackling Dummy for the local High School, aren't you. In fact, you won't even name the team you cheer for because your team SUCKS!

Enjoyed the time, Enos! It's time for you to go play tackling dummy again and get your azz beat by all the High School girls for your local school. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I don't care what your property taxes are, I can afford mine. And trust me, if that's what your degree is in, it's not blowing mine away. I don't care how bad CMS is, because I can afford better. But I think there is one big takeaway from all of this. You are over 40-years old, and act and talk this way. I have to go. I have a plane to catch. Some of us work for a living. I see your degree is going to good use!
