Olympic Trojans jump into the Sweet 16

Welcome Olympic to the Sweet 16.

Since losing to nationally-ranked Butler on Aug. 26, coach Barry Shuford’s team has won five straight games.

The Trojans (6-1, 2-0 MEGA 7 3A/4A) are averaging 43.6 points in their wins and have won two conference games by a combined score of 90-6.

Olympic is tied with Charlotte Catholic (6-0, 2-0) in the conference standings for second place behind No. 12 Berry (6-1, 3-0).

-- Sun Valley (3-3) was upset by Anson Senior (3-4) Friday and had its three-game win streak snapped. The Spartans fell out of the poll this week.

-- Rock Hill Northwestern lost for the second time this season and dropped to No. 13. That allowed for several teams to move up. Independence also moved back into the top 10 after an easy win at Providence Friday.

Guess that means you might need to post Olympic's scores every so often?

Langston. How about getting the box scores back in this week. Thank you.

Olympic's record is actually 6-1. Rumor has it they beat Garinger; the Disturber's crack sports team never posted that score.
Since the Trojans are now in your Sweet 16, could you at least get their W-L record correct?

That top 10 is an extremely strong group!

Hey guys, record wasn't updated in the chart. Fixed that. As far as boxscores, when we don't cover games we inform the schools that we need them to send us the information. The responsibility is with the home schools.

We want to publish every game for every school, but in those instances where we don't a reporter at a game, and we can't have a reporter at every game like we used to -- there's just too many schools now -- we depend on the schools to help us.

Doesn't always happen.

Why don't you come up & take in a South Iredell game. Get tired of all the CMS love. Lincolnton is pretty dang good as well. Try enjoying some small school football. You might see that they can play some ball.

What a soft league Olympic plays in. All that will do is get them ready to get pasted in the playoffs again.

I think South Iredell plays Draughn this week, and I believe that will be a very good matchup. Also, keep an eye on South Caldwell. In an inconsistent and weird Northwestern 3A/4A, they are playing consistent, beastly football.

You people are too hard on LW.. give him a break.

Independence and Berry are very overrated, especially Berry. Let me know when Berry beats a good team.

Langston. I was referring to the scoring summaries. You usually post them after the list of scores. This week I did not see any. Maybe I just missed them. Thanks for covering the area schools.

Too bad the Mallard Creek Ducks dont play anybody 'cept for Butler but they got all the best players from North and Vance.
Running up scores to make it look good wont work. Playoff time nears and the Head Quacker quivering with fright.
Which cupcake will knock them off this time?
Vance again? Garinger? West Char?
depending if they make the 'offs.

Actually Berry, Olympic and Charlotte Catholic are all in the same conference. All three are in ranked in the sweet 16. MEGA7a 3A/4A is pretty strong this year. I agree though Berry is weeak and it will show when they play the other 2 teams - BERRY - NO DEFENSE

Shuford should be a canidate for Coach of the Year. He has turned his defense around. The 1st 2 games they gave up 42 and 70 points. Since then the defense has given up only 9,6,28,6,14, and shut out Garinger.

Berry will not last long in the playoffs. They will not make it past the second round of the playoffs. They remind me of Victory Christian when they had a bunch of college prospects. Why is Berry ranked again?
