Shrine Bowl selects players, will announce Thursday

Shrine Bowl Media Release:

North and South Carolina Shrine Bowl Coaches gathered in Fort Mill, South Carolina at the Shrine Bowl Headquarters on Thursday, October 6th , for the arduous task of selecting 88 players from the more than 400 name submissions from the two Carolinas.

Ron Long, Athletic Director of the Shrine Bowl said, “Tar Heel Head Coach Mark Barnes of Crest High School  in Shelby  and South Carolina Head Coach Chuck Jordan of Conway High School in Conway,  along with their respective coaching staffs selected 44 players each, in what they termed would well represent their respective states.  This final selection process culminates nearly a year of extraordinary work that these coaching staffs’ dedicate to the selection process in addition to their regular jobs.”

Once the final list was submitted to Shrine Bowl Officials, the Shrine Bowl designees notified each player’s Head Coach informing him of his player’s selection.  The coach in turn informed the player(s).       

Earlier today, Billy Benfield, Chairman of The Shrine Bowl Board Of Governors and Connie Altman, General Game Chairman announced that GoUpstate.com will again present an Internet Webcast that will include  the Shrine Bowl Player Selection Rosters for 2011.  The Webcast is slated to begin at 1PM on Thursday, October 13th 2011.

This years game, the 75th Annual, will again be played at beautiful Gibbs Stadium on the campus of Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Saturday, December 17th at 1:00 PM EST.  General admission Tickets will be available at all BI-LO Stores in North and South Carolina.   You may also buy tickets from the Shrine Bowl Office in advance for $15.00 general admission. I see a few of the US Army All-Americans from the area not listed on the roster. Im assuming it was their choice.

they usually dont pick them bc they are already going to the Army All American Bowl its hard to attend both for the players at least

They did not pick them Wednesday that is a farce. The Shrine Bowl is a joke. Cronyism at it finest. 80's uniforms, no college coaches, false representation of exposure to get kids in college. Stop the lying. The Army, UA and Sempfer fidelis games have passed you by.
