Maiden QB commits to Charlotte 49ers football team

Maiden quarterback Matt Johnson has committed to play for Charlotte. He hopes to start when the 49ers begin play in 2013. Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior, was the 2010 offensive player of the year in the Catawba Valley conference. This season, he has thrown for 741 yards and four scores and has rushed for 969 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Heard the young man on ESPN730 last week. Sounds like an intelligent and well grounded kid. We'll be glad to have him come play for us. Go Niners!

Sounds like a spread or option type QB with those numbers...especially with the higher rushing yardage. Wonder what type of offense Lambert plans to run? Anyone know this kids' hs recruiting combine numbers..forty, shuttle, etc.?

Both Rivals and Scout list him as "no stars". Only stats listed were from 2009...1100 yards passing, 700 running. 6-3, 210 runs a 4.7 forty. Also plays LB. No other offers. Fwiw....

The 49ers will be running the spread option. This is a Jeff Mullin ran offense.
