York, East Lincoln join Sweet 16 party

The Sweet 16 appears to be settling down.

This week, the top 13 teams remain pretty much the same, with nationally ranked Butler still sitting atop the poll.

Hough, a third-year school, continues it amazing run since a season-opening loss and the team jumps up two spots to No. 14, its higher-ever ranking. Hough has won five in a row since losing 31-14 to No. 13 Independence to start the season.

Country Day, an unbeaten private school power, moved up a spot to 15 and two new teams join the team, in a tie for No. 16.

East Lincoln, a 2A school in Denver, is 6-0 and averaging 45.33 points per game. York, a 4A school in South Carolina, is 5-0, and allowing just 9.6 points per game. York has held three teams to seven points or less.

Hough is not unbeaten. Ask the Indy folks.

What about South Caldwell?

^^Does Caldwell County get the Observer?

I'd put SP over Catholic and Mallard Creek at 3.

Langston! How could you possibly NOT put South Point at No. 1 this week?

(yes, that is sarcasm)

Where is ardrey kell? Oh you cant "buy" your way onto the list, so long loud pretenders lol

Langston, did you enjoy the doughnuts I sent?

(sarcasm again)

In all seriousness, Thanks Langston. I don't always agree, but a lot of us like reading this weekly football poll.

South Caldwell is averaging 37.5 points a game.

South Caldwell's defense gives up an average of 6.83 points per game.

South Caldwell is 4A and 6-0.

South Caldwell has pitched 4 SHUTOUTS!

WTF Observer?????

Also, yes, Caldwell County gets the Observer and is qualified by the Observer's standards to be ranked.

This is just comical.

Comical.... South Caldwell.... I agree let's give the boys a little love, but fact is... If they play a charlotte team first round of the playoffs, They will get a crown town beat down!!!

Mallard Creek would Destroy SP.

I wouldn't rank SP higher than Mallard Creek. We're proud, but not foolish. But, I'm just curious what the 3A ranks will look like at the end of the season. If SP, Catholic, and Brown run the table, will SP still be ranked 3rd highest among 3A schools? Because, at this point in the season, it doesn't appear they have the ability to move up any more, given the manner in which the CO values the teams. I'll concede that Brown's loss was to a 4A team, so their position makes sense to me. I guess we need more D-1 prospects to get any higher?

Before you "concede" that Brown's loss was to a 4A team please consider the two school's attendance figures used by the NCHSAA for realignment. Brown has an average daily attendance of 1415 and PR(the team that beat them) has an average attendance of 1434. Brown gets by with playing a 3A schedule with a 4A student body. The fact that they lost to a "4A" team should carry no extra consideration. The schools are basically the same size.

I just want to know which of the "three man panel" continues to vote West Rowan over Statesville considering the two have played and Statesville won 39-20. I figured last week one of you just forgot to check the scores but now I just am pretty certain nobody is paying attention. Its not like you can use the more likely to win a state title argument that is supposed to be baked into this poll since they are in the same division and Statesville should win the North Piedmont Conference(meaning they will get a higher seed) and get more home games in the playoffs. But maybe as you pointed out last week Langston I just don't understand how your fancy poll works (I'm pretty sure I do though, you just assign points in descending order for each poll submitted and the more points each team gets the higher you get rated, therefore by basic number principles one person has to have voted West Rowan over Statesville). I'm not saying the Falcons aren't contenders. I'm just saying one of your voters doesn't do his/her homework.

@Anonymous 9/25 9:42 PM: I didn't know that. Certainly puts that loss in perspective then. Regardless, I guess my expectation is that this poll would behave like others. Apparently it does not, and that's certainly the CO's prerogative. Maybe I should try and talk Coach Lineburger into getting Catholic on the schedule, if they'd even take that game...

Hahahaha!North Carolina football is a joke compared to
South Carolina's. Their 2A powers would crush many of NC's top 3-4A's. If MC-Butler played in SC 4A, they would be at the bottom or middle of the pack at best. SC=SEC, NC=Conf USA!

I tend to recall SC fans saying the same stuff, and when somebody finally played Independence they were blown out. I'm pretty sure Butler would be the first or second best team in South Carolina. Didn't a Charlotte private school beat a South Carolina 4A power a couple years ago. Maybe I'm imagining things.

That's why SC best players got spank in the
Shrine Bowl last year, because they are so superior....lol

Northwestern and South Point (Rock Hill) play this friday. It will be interesting to see who is still standing after that one.

Butler fan here. Would love to see our team play Byrnes, Gaffney and others. No competition here in Meck. Co.

@Anonymous 9/26 12:13PM, Its South Pointe, not South Point. Why they chose that name for the High School, given a similarly named school just north of the border, I'll never know, but that "e" means a lot...
