They are just now naming a basketball coach? What have the boys been doing since last season?
Is basketball that far down the list at CCDS, or don't they care?
Country Day hasn't been competitive in basketball since the early 90's. What started out as Christian and Providence Day having some great players transfer in has turned into a new school every year, usually outside of Charlotte, who suddenly has a ready made team of all star public school players. I think there were some years where Country Day had a tough time even fielding a team, and were playing kids who were cut from middle school and JV teams in previous years. Football and lacrosse are king at Country Day, and boy's basketball is probably less popular than field hockey.
CCDS doesn't put any effort into attracting top talent to the school for athletic purposes. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to compete in private school basketball without transfers coming to the program. I'm not criticizing others for doing it (that is a whole different debate), but it is a fact that very few basketball programs are successful without transfers. CCDS has shown they prefer to develop athletes that have been at the school long term. History shows it works a lot better in lacrosse and football than basketball.
That's about to change! Stay tuned....
Remember football and lacrosse are population sports...it takes numbers to produce. Basketball is not. You can have a top program with just a couple of players, a guard and center and the next thing you know you have a great team. You can't get away with that in football or lacrosse. There are too many other players you have to count on.
