Butler's Cousar is new baseball coach at Charlotte Latin

Charlotte Latin School Headmaster Arch McIntosh and Athletic Director Jimmy Broadway announce that Kim Cousar is Latin’s new head varsity baseball coach and P.E. teacher.

He comes to Latin from Butler High School in Matthews, where he has served as head baseball coach since the school was opened in 1997. Cousar also served at Butler as an assistant football coach and physical education instructor with an emphasis on health issues, weight training and conditioning. He previously served as the head baseball coach, assistant football coach, and physical education and biology instructor at Anson Senior High School.

Cousar, who is known for his strong relationships with students and players, was named the N.C. Baseball Coaches Association Region 6 4A Coach of the Year in 1991, 1999 and 2007. He was Conference Coach of the Year in 1985, 1986, 1988, 1992, 1999, 2002 and 2007. His teams’ overall record is more than 400 wins, nine conference championships and 20 appearances in state playoffs. He has garnered 22 winning seasons in his 26 years as a baseball coach.

A former associate scout for the Cincinnati Reds, Cousar also is the founder of Batter-up Baseball Camps and served as co-director of the intramural program at Gardner-Webb University and as an assistant coach on American Legion teams, including the N.C. Legion State Championship team in 1987. Cousar earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education with an endorsement in biology from Gardner-Webb University.

Sad to see that another BHS coach has jumped ship. What's going on in Matthews that all the coaches, principal and former principal now area superintendent and AD are all leaving CMS some by choice others forced out.
It sounds like the rumors about the "AX" falling might be coming true.

Congratulations Coach Cousar! Latin got this one right. A first class coach for a first class school. We wish you well!

Butler has a bullseye on it after the shenanigans of 2010 (recruiting, coverups, etc.) came out. No one wants to coach there now because CMS is watching that place with a microscope. Kids, might as well give up the rented apartments and go back to your home school.

CMS isn't watching to closely. There have been a number of students reported this year for using false addresses to attend Butler and NOTHING has been done. We are talking about Both Boy/Girls Soccer players, Football players(where one's false address is in forclosure and appeared on TV in Dec being filmed in the Mint Hill home with family), Softball players, Boys Lacrosse player not to mention the non athlete cheaters.
I had hope that things would change in Feb when Vicki Hamilton retired but it looks as if the AD office is still the same with everything being swept under the rug.

I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE COUSAR COME COACH US AT LATIN! I AM SAD TO SEE SERRANO GO, BUT THIS COULD BE THE START OF A NEW ERA.

8:41. It stands to reason that the cheaters at Butler are underclassmen. That being the case, the community has a responsibility to turn them in (they have a number for that purpose) to stop such cheating. CMS needs to be more vigilant. It is not fair to the other schools to turn a blind eye to this. I know a couple of Butler athletes were caught this year.....P.S. Is it true that a CMS coach at Vance is renting an apartment so his kid can play girl's soccer at Butler? Apartmentgate needs to stop.

Pete Gorman, get on this now!

Now that the principal is gone and Newsome's father in law is retiring, it makes it hard to cover up there shenanigans. What a corrupt school Butler has become.

Do not get to excited Latin. If you truly look at the talent he has had he underachieves, always outcoached in big games. He is not very personable unless you are a parent kissing his behind. Most kids did not enjoy playing for him and several have choose to leave rather than deal with him. If you are a chosen one or the little brother of a former chosen one you are fine. If not and your folks are not pulling strings prepared to be screwed.

cousars a terrible coach only time he wins is when he has an unbelieveable amount of talent, good luck latin!

you people are funny, the guilty parties here are the parents, its the parent responsibility to make sure their kids addresses and what not are correct, its not just butler that has these cases its others schools too, but cms would never touch the rich kids at schools like AK and MP

3:22 and 4:31, you have hit it on the head. He underachieves. With the amount of talent @ Butler, he should have been able to be on the level of AK and Providence, but he wasn't even close. With Butler's talent, a spider monkey could coach a team to a comparable record. He leaves a lot of talent on the bench. I know a very good ballplayer, who will play at the next level, who was in the program four years, two as a starter, who never heard "good job" or "way to go" from Cowzur until half way through his senior season. Enjoy your new coach Latin! I am sure most returning players are pumped about next year @ Butler.

Coach Cousar takes baseball job at Latin... no matter how many times i read the title, I still don't see Butler football or Newsome's name anywhere. I guess some of you others see something I dont.

I'm amazed at the amount anonymity here. Quit bein chicken s**t! If you people have something to say, which it sounds as if you do, then why not put your name and let us know who you are?? Don't hide behind your computer as if Coach Cousar or Peter Gorman or anyone else in CMS is going to call you up. Anyone that says "I know a kid who..", or "he said she said" etc....just admit whose parent you are.

The only thing that is for certain, and that even matters now, is that Butler is going to be in a tough spot searching to fill coaching voids since Cousar coached football AND baseball. Good luck to Cousar and Latin and Butler

Whose parent are you and why are you such a advocate. Where are all your other supporters and believers in him. He was medicore, unmotivated, hard to get along with, poor motivator of kids, poor gameplanner and did absolutly nothing to help most kids play on next levelunless you were one of his chosen few. He will be easily replaced.

hey john rumble...my son played football for Butler for 2 years , the players laughed at Couser -he was a horrible coach he had no respect , even the other coaches made fun of him , he was a clown and knew nothing about football. Newsome took care of him because Couser got Newsome to Butler-if you dont know what you are talking about you need to keep your mouth shut. I personally dealt with him as a baseball coach and watched him presonally lose 2 games he should have won THIS SEASON. He is a horrible baseball coach and you guys at Latin will soon find that out, of course Latin has always sucked at Baseball anyway so you may not notice a big difference

Cowser had enough time in the system to receive his state retirement. With double dipping he just got about a $40k per year pay raise. Great deal for him!

Is anyone on staff at Butler that could be baseball coach? With all the budget issues with CMS it looks like filling coaching positions is a tough job for the schools.

For those who have harsh words toward Cousar, he looks like a great coach compared to the new coach Sambratto. Sampratto is perfect example of peter principal. Got promoted to level of incomptance.

I heard same thing. Not competent. Burtler gets some good players. Butler adm should have went after good coaches like at AK and proidence have.
