And who cares?

True...AAU basketball has been a nightmare! Too many unqualified Dads coaching teams, too many unqualified/untrained people pumping up the heads of kids and parents....too many kids running around thinking that they are division 1 prospects based on what their parents and these AAU-types are telling them. AAU is glorified pick-up basketball. Some of these AAU "coaches" are making good money off the hopes and dreams of kids and their "don't know any better" parents. Kids, if you want to get better...get a ball, get to a basket and get to work!

Some good points...However things have changed over the years because of...you guessed it, MONEY. Nonetheless the kids do need our support. The governing bodies need to clean it up and the kids should just play.

My suggestion is for parents to do research on the A.A.U. program they let their child play on. There are some good programs out there and parents need to be selective. I'm a product of A.A.U. and it can be a great experience for young athletes. I coached A.A.U.ball for 15plus years and had a great experience. It can be a great tool for young athletes.
