Prep Basketball Roundup 12.3.13: Tuesday's scores, heroes and more

ELEVATOR
UP, Olympic girls: Trojans were down 34-30 at halftime to Independence, but scored 48 points in the second half to spark a 78-53 win.
UP, United Faith: Falcons held Kennedy Charter to 11 points in the second half of Tuesday's 52-37 win.
UP, Rhyle Scott, Ardrey Kell: career-high 12 points in 60-40 win over Rocky River. Ardrey Kell (5-0) plays at rival Myers Park Thursday.
UP, Nycieko Dixon, North Rowan girls: Scored her 1,000th career point in Tuesday’s win over Mooresville.
UP, Hopewell girls: Upset Sweet 16 No. 4 Lake Norman Charter 80-61.

TUESDAY'S TOP GIRLS PERFORMERS

Amanda Dobner, Hickory Grove: 28 points, 14 rebounds, six steals in 77-51 win over Covenant Day.

Myicha Drakeford, Brianna Hamrick, Harding girls: Duo led Harding to an 83-76 win over Sweet 16 No. 8 West Charlotte. Drakeford had 27 points and 11 rebounds. Hamrick finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

Meghan Fleury, Providence: had 14 points and 16 rebounds in 48-38 loss to Butler (2-2). It was Fleury's third straight double-double. Kobe Leigh led Butler with 18 points.

Eleah Parker, Northside Christian: 6-4 freshman had 24 points, 19 rebounds, 10 blocks in a 78-18 win over Metrolina Christian. Teammate Jayon Leak had 10 points, 10 assists and 11 steals.

Stephanie Watts, Weddington:
Junior guard had a quadruple double in Tuesday's 85-20 win over Central Academy. It was the second of her career. Watts finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 steals.

Jatarie White, Providence Day:
Top 10 national recruit went for 29 points in a 61-54 win over Greensboro Day in a battle of N.C. 3A Independent Schools state title contenders.

Rashika White, Berry:
21 points, 11 rebounds in 57-38 loss to Mallard Creek.

Tuesday's Top Boys Performers

C.J. Bryce, North Mecklenburg: Had 23 points in a 70-51 win over East Meck. He had seven rebounds and made 3-of-4 shots from 3-point range. Teammate Taj Middleton had 12 points and three assists for the Vikings, No. 9 in the Observer’s Sweet 16 poll. North Meck is 6-0; East Meck fell to 4-1.

Connor Burchfield, Concord:
30 points in the Spiders 70-61 win over rival Hickory Ridge. Concord is No. 16 in the Observer's Sweet 16 poll.

Austin Dasent, Myers Park: 13 points, five rebounds, five assists in 53-43 win over rival South Meck.

Matthew Fisher-Davis, Butler: 27 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks for the 6-5 guard in a 88-56 win over Providence. Fisher-Davis is a Vanderbilt recruit and a top 100 senior nationally.

Jerick Haynes, Crest: 39 points in an overtime win over Ashbrook. Crest is 3-0.

Ray Kowalski, Northside Christian: 6-2 sophomore guard had 27 points, including six 3-pointers, in the nationally ranked Knights 106-52 win over Metrolina Christian. Teammate Rayjon Tucker had 19.

Nehemiah Mabson, United Faith:
6-6 senior forward had 21 points and 14 rebounds in Tuesday’s 52-37 win over Kennedy Charter. Mabson scored nine of the Falcons’ 11 third-quarter points.

Juice Narusas, Grace Academy: 12 points, 14 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists in 78-63 win over Queens Grant. Teammates Rob Hobson (21 points, 9 rebounds) and Luke Lawson (22 points, 6 rebounds) also had big games.

Rusty Reigel, Charlotte Latin: 40 points in 86-76 loss to Forsyth Country Day. Reigel, who had 11 rebounds, scored his 1,000th career point.

Jordan Watkins, Providence Day:
Davidson recruit shot 7-of-9 from 2-point range and 4-for-9 from 3-point range in the Chargers 69-67 win over Greensboro Day. Grant Williams, a 6-7 sophomore center, had 16 points and six rebounds.

Tre Williams, Carson: 37 points in a 58-50 win over Central Cabarrus.

TUESDAY'S GIRLS ROUNDUP

East Meck 45, No. 7 North Meck 41: East Meck (2-3) pulled off a big upset Tuesday behind 14 points from Jayla Horton. Zhamya Wills had seven points and eight rebounds for the Eagles, who outscored North Meck 17-10 in the fourth quarter to win. North fell to 4-2.

No. 6 Ardrey Kell 69, Rocky River 53:
Ardrey Kell, No. 6 in the Observer’s Sweet 16, improved to 3-2. Erin Whalen (15 points) and Raven Dean (16) led the Knights. Rocky River (3-1) lost for the first time.

West Mecklenburg 63, Garinger 19: West Meck's LaShonda Mayela had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Hawks in the win. Jasmine Gray had 11 points, eight rebounds and five rebounds.

TUESDAY'S BOYS ROUNDUP

No. 7 Olympic 61, No. 11 Independence 56: Senior guard C.J. Jackson had 20 points and 6-5 junior Malik Constantine had 22 points and 16 rebounds as Olympic (3-0) won its 33rd straight game. Independence got 22 points, 13 rebounds from Deion Lane.

No. 1 Providence Day 69, Greensboro Day 67:
Providence Day, No. 1 in the Observer's Sweet 16, improved to 6-0 with the close win. It was the Chargers' first win over Greensboro Day since 2001. Providence Day (6-0) held on for the win, despite the Bengals (4-2) outscoring the Chargers 17-10 in the fourth quarter.

Myers Park 53, South Meck 43: The Mustangs held off a tough challenge from one of their primary rivals. A 16-6 second quarter gave the Mustangs a lead they wouldn't give up. Juwan Davenport led Myers Park with 14 points. Grant Hedberg had 16 for the Sabres.

Gaston Day 97, York Prep 33: Gaston Day scored 49 points in the first half and allowed only two in the second quarter to spark the rout. Ben Henderson (20 points), Adam Koziol (19)and Derek McKnight (18) led Gaston Day (5-4).

Butler 88, Providence 56: Butler (1-3) got its first win of the season and extended Providence's losing streak to seven games, dating to last season. Providence's last win was 67-54 over Butler last February. Tuesday, former Panther guard Giovanni Mack had 22 points and 11 assists against his old team. Raequan Scott added 10. Junior Dalen Dotson, a Charlotte Christian transfer, led Providence with 24 points.

Victory Christian 77, Cannon 74: Victory Christian (2-3) handed Cannon (7-1) its first loss of the season, despite Grant Gossage's fifth double-double of the season for Cannon. Gossage finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Victory got 16 points from Filip Simovic, 13 from Corbin Jackson and 12 from Terry Alston.
