Marvin Ridge High will hold a meet and greet Thursday (May 9) at 6 p.m. to introduce its new head football coach, Dr. Daniel Bailey.
Bailey has been a head coach at several schools in North and South Carolina. He replaces Scott Chadwick, who coached the Mavericks for five seasons.
Chadwick had four straight winning seasons before going 6-6 in 2012.

Where did he coach? One year at Green Sea Floyds in 2000?
He has been a head coach at 2 schoools - Green Sea Floyds in Conway, Sc and at Piedmont in Union County. A total of 3 seasons. I believe all 3 season were below .500. Many years as an assistant. Was an assistant at Marvin Ridge this past year and he teaches there already.
Just Sad! A school such as Marvin Ridge could only manage this hire. Hope Conner, Allran and the over involved parents enjoy it.
It's actually a happy time for the kids at Marvin ridge. They finally have closure and can move forward with a positive influence.
GREAT FINALLY THE TEAM CAN MOVE FORWARD HOPE THE BEST TO COACH BAILEY & THE OTHER GREAT COACH'S THERE
the last coach had his 15 minutes of fame ,guess he cried way too much ,one day your blessed pne day your cursed time for change ,change is good
Over 30 parents attended the meet and great with the new head coach. They are very happy to not have to deal with the old head coach. Parents biggest positive remarks, , coach bailey spoke from the heart and is a genuine good person. Parents also said that this is the first time they were ever formally introduced to all assistant coaches.
Bailey's career record as a head coach is 3-29. He was 1-21 at Piedmont. Funny how that was never mentioned in the press release.
I find it interesting that you mentioned that the Mavericks had "four straight winning seasons before going 6-6"... The Mavericks were built by Coach Chadwick. In the second year of school existence in Chadwick's first year, he led them to the playoffs and a 7-5 season. After two straight 9-3 seasons, the Mavericks went 10-2. In 2012, when they went '6-6', one of those losses was a forfeit where they slaughtered E. Meck -- (due to their A.D screwing up the eligibility paperwork). Just adding that these were not just some average seasons, and to add to the fella above, with as dumb as some of the people who work at that school... They probably did not even know that his combined record as a H.C was 3-29. Being one of the many parents that supported Chadwick, we are glad that we have a coach, but people don't understand what they lost in Coach C.
Let the dead bury the dead ,Chadwick is history ,who cares what the coach's past record was the future matters ,where is Chadwick now ?
To 7:00 AM anonymous,
Thank you for clarifying that you are a parent whose focus has been on supporting the coach rather than the TEAM. Perhaps now there can be a TEAM rather than the support cast for a narsisist.
I remember Coach Chadwick addressing us after AK this past season in the gym informing us that we had to forfeit the East Meck game due to using an ineligible player. This player missed too many days of school the previous spring due to being sick. Chadwick was the acting AD that spring! He either knew about it and didn't disclose it or was too in competent to follow policy and inform the player prior to the summer. He also told us that this is the first time a forfeit happened to him as a head coach. Google him in Georgia and he was forced to resign for the same thing while he was both the AD and Head Coach. Facts!!
To the previous poster...the coaching staff in previous years has always been announced at parent meetings.
OK, this is a hopefull hire. We hope the new coach does well. If his past record is an idicator of future success, then the chances are slim. That's why the AD didn't make the record known. Bottom line...it comes down to wins and loses. A successfull football team generates revenue that pays for others sports that are an expense to the bottom line. Donorations will slow down to support the efforts to build a field house or install field turf if the team has lossing seasons. Will the Marvin Ridge community be happy when there are more people there to watch the band than the game? Listen, this is high school football. Playing time is earned and is not an entitlement like the iPhones and nice cars the kids have been given. If your son has not been working at his craft to earn playing time to improve the "TEAM," then you as a parent need to have a conversation with your son. Be accountable! You shouldn't have to have off field conversations with the coach or donate money to influence the coaching staff to give your son playing time. This is not Pop Warner football.
The bottom line is that the Marvin football program can now work on a whole "team" atmosphere between coaches, kids and their parents. No longer will players quit mid season like the four players that did this season. Restructuring the program into a positive atmosphere should be more important that wins. Four assistant coaches also have quit the program, one left to coach at a rival school while another still teaches, all while the old coach was at the helm.
Best of luck to the new head coach & his staff
If little johhny doesnt play again this year and they post a losing record the parents will witch hunt once again and drive another Coach out of town. MR Football Parents are a joke. Come to grips if little johhny cant play already.
When Bailey was at Piedmont, it was during a time in which there was no support from the administration, or parents, and little interest in the program from the kids. This did not change until the school and community there got tired of it and put some money and time into developing the program from the youth leagues up. Likewise, Green Sea-Floyds has never been a small school football power in SC either, so I suspect the same may have been true there.
Bailey is inheriting strong administrative and fan support and interest at Marvin Ridge... something it seems he may not have had at his other two head coaching stops. So it will be interesting to see how he does in a situation where the foundation is already there, and he is not having to build from the ground up.
Yeah the foundation is there alright but that's because of the coach before him and everything he did. He will walk into this already setup for success, all due to his predecessor. Probably is coach bailey above right there, embarrassingly defending his past record as a coach.
I can't help but laugh at you Chadwick haters you are so ignorant..He built the program into one of the best in the state top to bottom. His problem was that he didn't play the politics game. The 3-4 parents who caused all the problems did nothing to help the program, no money, no time, etc...and for the family who has a history of getting coaches fired going back to youth baseball I hope you are happy...What always puzzled me was, if you had an issue why didn't you just contact him...He had an open door policy..Chadwick is a good person, over the years there have been a number of kids who had mental challenges and probably should not have been on a HS football team but Chadwick let them be on the team..these are the things you don't know about him...and you probably don't care,, but now you know..
Coach Bailey was also the Defensive Coordinator at Red Springs two years ago when they won 10 games for the first time in 25 years. He built a solid foundation in the Weightroom for the Red Devils who this past season won 10 games again. He's a good coach and better person give him a chance
"Bailey is inheriting strong administrative and fan support and interest at Marvin Ridge"
A strong administration might be the most ridiculous thing that has been posted in all of these comments. Lets see, you have a complete joke of a principal in Conner, a laughingstock of an athletic director in the wig-wearing Allran and worst of all, the person running the sports there is Fisenne, who has zero experience as an athlete or a coach.
I will give Coach Bailey a chance, as it seems his previous head jobs weren't the best situation. But this couldn't be any better. He inherits a great program - that was set up by Chadwick - and as bad as that administration is, they will give him everything he needs because they can't afford for him to fail.
Yeah you say he is a good person, but yet he has been scheming with Conner, Allran, and fat Fisenne to take the job of the coach who got him there in the first place. This is not something that just recently came up. They have been planning this shit since back in December when they tried to get Chadwick to resign the first time.
do not forget Chadwick was FIRED not resigned sent to Porter Ridge with his tail between his legs ,
You just can't let it go...how does it feel to have so much hate...you need help..
Must of hit a nerve ,Loser
Chadwick will be fine..he will have no problem getting a coaching job..I apologize for calling you ignorant, you are actually an idiot..when you look in the mirror say to yourself wow, I helped get a HS football coach fired..I am so important..
WOW ,IT ALL COMES OUT IN THE WASH MORON
I hope your kids do not grow up and act like you..
Ask you MaMa
I hope each and every one of you know the situation with why Chadwick was let go. If you don't, learn the story.
As for Bailey, past doesn't always predict the future. You have to give him a chance. And from what I have seen, there wasn't a ton "built" by Chadwick. Coach Bailey has his hands full, that's for sure.
In my opinion, the hardest part in everything is getting the kids to respond. These kids are not raised like they should be (some are absolutely awesome) but with how much that has been just given (like said above cars, iphones, etc) to them, they are spoiled and need to learn how to put in some old fashioned hard work. Coach Bailey has already begun to instill a since of family/community. That is what will brew the success. If the kids will work together, work hard, push each other to become better, you will see success. And I love how Coach Bailey's philosophy that it begins in the weight room. Because some of these kids are straight up soft. He's got a great start by starting them in the weight room.
It really comes down to how coach can get the kids to believe in the program and the success. If they buy into it - look out. The potential is there.
This is a player at the school. Things have never been better!
As a graduated player this is quite terrifying. Allowing parents to push an administrator around to force a coach out is shameful. The school as a whole is going down hill. It has ever since Cook left. I assure you that he wouldn't put up with parents bullying him for a change in coach. I seriously hope Alrand tried to keep him. It is sad and disheartening to see what is going on at Marvin ridge since I departed. I seriously hope you stop letting the boosters make admin decisions. This is coming from a 2012 graduate who had a significant role in the 10-2 season that year.
Just sad.
For all you people who thought that Bailey was going to be the best thing that ever happened to MRHS, I hope you have seen the writing on the wall. He is the dumbest person on the planet and has ZERO talent as anything but an idiot. The entire season was a joke a wasted opportunity for seniors and other players who had a chance to do great things. I hope those of you who led the witch hunt against Chadwick are happy with the mess you have created and I hope all of you who supported Bailey are embarrassed by your actions. He is a laughingstock and the once great Maverick football program is a joke. To those who schemed to get Bailey in - you're disgusting. Not one of you involved in that scheme- the DC, the AD and the Assistant AD bothered to think about the fact that Chadwick has a family and your meddling actions have had a major impact on those people. What goes around, comes around and you should probably remember that.
I knew that little guy when he coached for Piedmont High. I think they won one game that year. Bailey has a napoleon complex. Good luck with that.
