WOW!
It's not how you start, but how you finish (Michael Jordan's famous quote). An opportunity was was given to these three seniors to continue to become student athletes. Getting an education is not "very sad." Education is the best investment for everyone no matter what college you attend.
Well said Anonymous 6/15/2011!!! Man when will we stop being so negative? Actually Butler Community is the "Duke University" of Jr. Colleges and they have produced some outstanding student-athletes who went on to attend major universities. Great job Coach Rob and Vance high school. The school actually had more than 25 student-athletes to receive athletic scholarships this year!! Nothing sad about that!!!
Easy to turn this into a black /white issue... but this is not about that! There are many reasons that students go to Jr. Colleges and many of them go so that they can have a meal at THAT table one day. My son played for Coach Robinson at Vance and he treats every player like a son. I can bet you one thing, those three young men sat down and weighed the pros and cons with their parents and Coach before making that decision. Please don't judge or make assumptions until you've walked a day in their shoes! I do respect your opinion, but believe me Coach Robinson is well respected and he does not make mistakes with the lives of young men at Vance.... He wants them all to eat at THAT table!
above comment is so passive. Yesa asir! This is why our kids will continue to go to community colleges, because of this passive attitude. Continue to clean the table.
These young men decided to do something to better there educational position, not sit back and do nothing. What college did you attend? I know lots of "our" students who have 4 year college degrees that started out cleaning tables!! Again, it's not how you start, but how you finish.
It would be nice if the girl’s basketball team at Vance could get a coach like Coach Robinson. An opportunity is an opportunity. I’m sure if they had bigger and better offers they would have taken them. Sometime this is the path athletes must take for a bigger and better opportunity.
Good for these kids to earn their scholarships, but their decision to go the JuCo route was as much about talent as academics or anything else. They weren't recruited by any D-I schools and just want to keep playing ball.
