Mallard Creek backup QB transfers to West Rowan

Mallard Creek quarterback Zay Laster, who backed up All American Marquise Williams this season, has transferred to 3A power West Rowan.

Laster, a 5-foot-10, 190 pound junior, transferred last week, Mavericks coach Mike Palmieri said. This will be Laster's fourth time changing schools. He played at Mallard Creek as a freshman and at West Charlotte as a sophomore, Palmieiri said.

"We'll be OK," Palmieri said. "We've got a great group of kids. We've got six starters on defense and seven or eight on offense."

Laster, a junior, played big minutes in the Mavericks' N.C. 4AA quarterfinal against Vance. He enrolled at West Rowan Friday, sources said.

West Rowan has won 45 straight games and will play for a N.C. 3A championship Saturday.

Palmieri said he didn't know who would be his quarterback next season at Mallard Creek, but said he had several good prospects.

I don't know his Math but that amounts to three schools. This could be a reason they couldn't win against Vance. Oh, Why didn't you use some of those prospects against Vance. Come on Man!!!

It's considered 4 schools, even if he comes back to the 1st one.

Umm...is he moving, or is West Rowan a private school? I didn't think you could just transfer schools on a whim and play sports.

No offense, I can almost guarantee that the kids dad did not go to D1 College or play. Why? well first D1 coaches and Admins keep track of this and are notified by NCAA governing body, IF the student Athlete is a solid candidate. Whether the dad got a job here or there, the pattern of so many school transfers will not benefit his son. Regardless. At this point D2, maybe, and that's a maybe, D3 will take him.
Do you honestly think that at this point a D1 coach will take this chance with this case? If you are a LOCK All American, Yes, other wise, no. Do you think that a coach wants to be penalize and lose scholarships? Son, if you want to play at the next level and you just transfered, do this. Concentrate on you grades and SAT scores. Take as many SATS practice as possible, attend as many camps as possible in the West coast, East coast, don't mess with midwest, nothing's there. Best regards. Oh by the way, been there done that.

Why doesn't Brand just take tha MC job? The word at CMS is that Palmieri has failed to meet the requirements to be retained as a teacher in CMS and will be moving back to Florida.

Now Brand probably didn't endear himself to the administration when he decided to change the curriculum for the class he teaches to meet HIS requirements instead of the State mandated policy. Something about the states program was cutting into the football players weightlifting time.

Yea whatever. Just a coincidence they just won 2 & maybe 3 since they know MCHS will choke again next yr. Rowan has no Gorman either. Recruiting def pays.

He ought to look into Indy, I heard they are in need of a lot of help! They at least can go back to one Tommy Knotts tradition, raid all the talent regardless of where they are.

I've seen Laster play. MC should be able to replace him quite easily.

Six starters on defense??? No way..this is true! Go through the starters and tell me you only lose five. Actually you lose 3 DBs, 3 LBs, 2 DEs....do I need to keep going?? That looks like 8 starters are gone...maybe that's Florida math he is using.
