Prep Basketball Roundup 12.10.13: Tuesday's heroes, scores, notes

ELEVATOR
UP, Shannon Bradley, United Faith: Averaging 17.3 points for Falcons (2-1) who didn’t have a team last season and are starting over in 2013-14. Bradley had 19 points in Monday’s 28-15 win at Legacy Charter (S.C.)

UP, Salem Cuthbertson, Desiree Newman, Charlotte United Christian: Cuthbertson had 20 points, 16 steals, 13 rebounds in a 50-8 win over the Fletcher School. Newman, a 2012-13 All-Mecklenburg pick, had 21 points.

UP, Providence girls: Three players had double-doubles in Tuesday's 58-42 win over Sun Valley: Megan Fleury (21 points, 24 rebounds); Chi-Chi Madguebunam (15, 16) and Michaela Daniels (10 steals, 10 assists, seven points). Fleury's 24 rebounds broke her school-record of 20 set earlier this season.

UP, L.J. Peak, Gaffney: Georgetown recruit had 34 points and 14 rebounds in 76-65 win over Rock Hill Tuesday, scoring 19 in the second half. Peak, a 6-5 senior forward, is rated among the nation's top 100 recruits by ESPN.

UP, Luke Maye, Hough: Junior scored his 1,000th career point in a one-point win over Independence.


TUESDAY'S TOP GIRLS PERFORMERS

Brittany Autry, Parkwood: 19 points, 10 rebounds in 63-15 win over Buford. Emry Tsitouris had 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Sarah Billiard, Covenant Day:
25 points, 12 rebounds in 63-43 win over Metrolina Christian. Erica Van Dusen finished with 16 points, six assists and six steals.

Miya Bull, East Mecklenburg: 10 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks in a 64-52 win at Olympic.

Lauren Arney, East Burke: 31 points in 70-67 win over East Rutherford. East Rutherford's Rachel Camp had 38 points, 7 rebounds and teammate Shay Dewberry added 21.

Kelsey Dean, Hough: Scored 32 points in a 73-28 win over Independence and also scored her 1,000th career point in the fourth quarter.

Mahaley Holit, Central Cabarrus: freshman had 21 points, eight assists and six steals in a 61-55 win over Hickory Ridge.

Haleigh Lackey, Bandys: made 12-of-16 shots from the field and had 24 points in 94-17 win over Foard. She also had five steals.

Eleah Parker, Northside Christian: nine points, 16 rebounds, eight blocks in a win over Concord First Assembly.

Marie Ritchie, Alexander Central girls: 13 points, 12 rebounds in 44-32 win over Watauga. Alexander Central is 6-0.

Stephanie Watts, Weddington: National recruit had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 12 steals in a 59-33 win over Forestview. Teammate Bailee Carter had 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks, nearly getting a triple double.

TUESDAY'S GIRLS ROUNDUP

No. 1 Myers Park 62, No. 15 North Mecklenburg 43: Myers Park (8-0) made a statement in the second half of Tuesday's showdown at North (4-3). The Vikings led Myers Park 21-20 at halftime, but the Mustangs outscored North 42-22 in the second half. Aliyah Mazyck had 18 points and Rydeiah Rogers 16 to lead the Mustangs. North got 13 from Dynasty Heyward and 12 from Destiny Barrino.

Australia 40, No. 2 Providence Day 37: The Chargers were outscored 14-11 in the fourth quarter of a close game and fell to a team of Australia high school age players. Jatarie White had 24 for the Chargers.

No. 5 Mallard Creek 76, No. 11 Harding 67: The Mavericks stayed unbeaten at 6-0 beating the two-time N.C. 3A champs behind 21 points from Chantel Williams, 19 from Autumn Drayton and 18 from Zaria Wright. Mallard Creek outscored Harding (3-2) 24-16 in the decisive fourth quarter. Harding got 18 from Brianna Hamrick and 14 from Myicha Drakeford.

Charlotte Catholic 56, Charlotte Latin 46:
Sophie Rossitch had 21 pionts and Sarah Dudzinski added 11 in the Cougars' win. Catholic led 23-7 after the first quarter. Chanin Scott led Latin (1-6) with 16 points. Catholic is 2-2.

Hough 73, Independence 28:
Hough (4-2) jumped out to a 27-3 first quarter lead and won this non-conference game easily at home in Cornelius. Camile Martin led Independence with 12 points.

TUESDAY'S TOP BOYS PERFORMERS

Ty-shon Alexander, Concord: 33 points in a 72-53 win over East Rowan with N.C. State coaches into see the 6-3 freshman wing.

Gabe DeVoe, Shelby:
39 points, courtesy of eight 3-point shots, from Clemson signee in a 94-54 win over Chase.

Terrance Durham, Mallard Creek: Scored 27 points in a 79-77 win over Harding. Harding, which got 31 points from Darryl White and 22 from Teyon Henry, outscored Mallard Creek 39-15 in the fourth quarter to get close. White had 20 of his 31 points in the quarter.

Daivon Gamble, Garinger:
16 points, 22 rebounds in a 54-46 win over East Gaston.

Jay Harrill, Watauga:
25 points, five rebounds in 61-43 win over Alexander Central. Alexander's Ty Ireland had 22 points, 13 rebounds, three assists.

Luke Maye, Hough:
Scored his 1,000th point with 98 seconds left in the first quarter. He finished with 19 points, 16 rebounds in a one point win over Independence.

Deion Lane, Independence:
27 points, 10 rebounds, three steals in a 69-68 narrow loss at Hough. Teammate Tayon Gleaves had 21 for the Patriots (3-4), No. 15 in the Observer's Sweet 16.

Derek McKnight, Gaston Day: 29 points in a 65-50 win over Davidson Day.

Justus Melton, Covenant Day: 28 points, 21 rebounds in 62-55 win over Metrolina Christian. Melton averages 22 points, 14 rebounds.

Desean Murray, Northside Christian: In a 99-62 win over First Assembly, Murray had 15 points and 18 rebounds. Keyshawn Woods had 24 points, five assists. James Demery had 22 pionts an eight rebounds.

Darnell Rogers, Indian Land: 5-5 sophomore guard scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and 26 overall as Indian Land, No. 10 in the S.C. 2A state poll, beat 4A York.

Chad Sanders, Kings Mountain: 25 points 87-58 win over Chase. Teammate James Tillman had 21 points, 11 rebounds.

Hunter Seacat, Lake Norman: 24 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 77-52 win over Hopewell.

Chazz Surratt, East Lincoln:
made 7-of-7 free throws in the final two minutes to seal a 68-63 win over South Point. He had 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Travis Waldroup-Rodriguez, East Rutherford: 24 points, eight rebounds in 67-56 win over East Burke.

TUESDAY’S BOYS ROUNDUP

No. 8 North Mecklenburg 92, Myers Park 81: C.J. Bryce had 30 points, 10 rebound and three assists in a tight win over rival Myers Park. North (7-0) also had 20 points and six rebounds from Taj Middleton.

Gaston Day 65, Davidson Day 50:
In a meeting of two of the state’s top 2A private schools, Gaston Day got 12 points from Adam Koziol and held Davidson Day’s Kenny Hairston to 11. Hairston came into the game averaging 22 points. Blake Schermann led Davidson Day (6-1) with 14 points. Gaston Day improved to 7-4.

Greensboro Day 54, Cannon 50: Greensboro Day got 24 points from Bryan Rouse and 10 points from eighth grader Will Dillard to improve to 6-2 and slow down Cannon. Cannon (9-2) got 17 from Ryan Marks.

Sun Valley 67, Providence 59: Sun Valley had four double-figure scorers in a solid win. Jay Rowell had 17 points, Daquan Moody 14, Malcolm Cumberbatch and Jimmy Hudgens had 12 each for Sun Valley (2-2). Providence (1-6) got 15 from Nolan Nelson and 14 from Dalen Dotson.

Did somebody at Rocky River upset you? Here is a gurls' team local to you that is 6-1, has upset Cuthbertson (once number 11 in the Observer Sweet 16) twice; and destroyed a good Berry Academy team, and they still get no press with you. Meanwhile, I'm reading about teams from Belmont. What gives?
