Elevator
UP, Mallard Creek: Will play in third straight regional championship game next week, hunting first state championship berth. The Mavericks will host rival Butler in a rematch of the 2012 N.C. 4AA regional championship game.

UP, Rock Hill Northwestern: heading to state championship game for the fifth time in six seasons.

UP, Charlotte Catholic: made fourth straight regional final Friday.

UP, Butler: earned third regional final berth in four years.

Friday's Top Performers

Elijah Hood, Charlotte Catholic: Rushed for 372 yards and six touchdowns in a 56-30 win over Southeast Guilford in the N.C. 4A semifinals. Hood broke his own school-record of 360 yards he set last year. The rushing performance was second-most in Mecklenburg County history behind Providence Day’s Josh Covington.

Hood also set a new single-season county rushing record Friday with 3,541 yards, bettering his total of 3,309 set last year. No other county player has rushed for more than 2,603. The six rushing touchdowns ties a county mark. Hood’s 51 rushing touchdowns this season.

Anthony Ratliff, Butler: Threw for 178 yards and a touchdown and he ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-7 win over West Forsyth. Teammate Benny LeMay rushed 15 times for 99 yards and three scores.

Rocky Reid, Concord: 28 carries for 119 yards and a score in a 21-13 win over previously unbeaten South Point.

Zephaniah Wall, Monroe: freshman QB had 149 yards passing and two touchdowns in a 34-13 win over East Lincoln in the N.C. 2AA quarterfinals. Teammate Chase Byrum rushed 30 times for 120 yards.

Friday's Roundup

Butler 48, West Forsyth 7: West Forsyth scored on its first possession and grabbed a 7-0 lead and appeared poised to show why it was the No. 1 overall seed in the N.C. 4AA West bracket.

But Butler scored on its first possession, too. And the Bulldogs wouldn't stop scoring.

Butler (11-3) scored every time it had the ball in the first half, led 34-0 at halftime and by the end of the third quarter, Bulldogs' coach Brian Hales was taking all of his starters out. Butler reached the N.C. 4AA semifinals for the third time in four years and the reigning state champs will have a chance to get in position to defend their championship. Butler plays at unbeaten Mallard Creek (14-0) next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Parkwood 24, Hunter Huss 14: Parkwood grabbed a 21-7 lead and held on. The Rebels were in the quarterfinals for the first time since 1972, after beating county rival Forest Hills 17-7 last week. After Friday’s win, Parkwood (8-6) will try to reach the state finals for the first time. It’ll face another county rival, Monroe, is next week’s regional championship. Parkwood made the semifinals in 1972.

Crest 30, Asheville Reynolds 13: Crest ended Asheville Reynolds' Cinderella ride through the N.C. 3A playoffs. Reynolds was a No. 13 seed. P.J. Brooks had the put-away 12-yard touchdown run for the Chargers with 3:28 to play. Crest will host next week's regional championship against three-time state champion Northern Guilford. Northern Guilford beat Crest 21-20 in 2010 to win the first of those three straight after Crest's kicker missed a point-after that would've tied the game with 15.7 seconds left. Northern Guilford also beat Crest 31-7 in the 2011 N.C. 3AA final.

Forestview 42, Hibriten 20: Forestview was in the N.C. quarterfinals for the first time in school history but turned a 14-7 halftime lead into a 35-7 second-half lead lead to secure the school's first-ever regional championship berth.

Shelby 45, North Rowan 21: Shelby ended North Rowan's unbeaten season in impressive fashion. Shelby led 28-14 at halftime and 31-14 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, North Rowan closed to 31-21, but Jaquavis Brooks' 47-yard run with 10:34 left pushed Shelby's lead to 38-21 and Brooks got another score from six yards out for the final margin. He finished with three touchdowns Friday.

Go Dawg Butler. Time to bring out the big guns and shoot down a bunch of high flying feathered quacker pretenders and eat some of that mallard creek duck.
Dawgs love that dead duck meat as the REAL 4AA title game arrives.

Butler wins again for the Championship.

Why is this upcoming BUTLER-MALLARD CREEK game not being held at a neutral facility like say BANK OF AMERICAN STADIUM ???????????
Home field advantage needs to be ERASED.

Or maybe as a first at UNCC 49ers Ricardson Field only a couple miles away?

This is the biggest game in NC and def one of the biggest in Char Meck in yrs or since Richmond Cty and Indy played with Leak at the helm.

Wheres Jerry Richardson?

CharCat better be on top of its game as Big Dud aint no joke ...
Nothing is impossible but this is the best team they ever played and best Greensboro Triad ever produced. No weak spots.

ConSpids got the pretender wantabes but no prob ... Who is that bald chump on FNF named Nate? What a joke. Hard to believe Delano as good as he is would let that punk even on a mike as dumb as he is ... loserrrr ...
Havelock def on their horizon...

Butler def only reloads and never rebuilds. Good call on the Butler Mallard Creek game ... Def the biggest game in 10-15 yrs in CMS even back to the Memorial Stadium West Charlotte-Richmond County times since all WC players are at MCHS now.

Butler always rises to the occasion and def got their mojo on ... This one needs to be played
at Memorial ...
Def the title game as 4AA East atypically weak in 2013.

SCREW THE NFL weak as hell in 2013 due to all the problems and brain injuries ... The whole league running scared ...

High School & college football amateur football RULEZ !!!!!!
Lucky ass Auburn ... Bama way to cocky and took those sorry punks for granted not even practicing last week .... Never get too cocky or over hype ...

Somebody def got all West Charlotte footballers after a 0-10 season and last year or the year before. Terrible. They dominated the state off and on for for 50-60 yrs.

Rename Mallard Creek to North Charlotte High School. Who wants to be named for a duck creek?

Otherwise where is Sugar Creek High School?
What about Steele Creek High School? Wheres Paw Creek High School? Where is Brier Creek High School? What about McAlpine Creek High School or McMullen Creek High School?

Gotta be more consistent if you like creek names for high schools.

There are 30 creeks in Mecklenburg-Strelitz County.
