Catholic's Elijah Hood to play in US Army All-America game

Charlotte Catholic fullback Elijah Hood has been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl.

The game will be broadcast from San Antonio on NBC Jan. 4.

Hood, a North Carolina recruit, is one of 90 players from across the country to make the game. He'll be honored with a jersey presentation Thursday, Nov. 14 at school. The presentation is at 12:30 p.m.

Hood has rushed for 2,338 yards. He is second in North Carolina, behind Swannanoa Owen's Jager Gardner (2,384) and Hood ranks No. 12 nationally. He's also got 32 rushing touchdowns.

He is a great player, but please, please report on the thousands of other outstanding student athletes in Mecklenburg county. We have seen enough articles on Hood and Grier. They have committed. Give some of the other kids some ink.. How many stories are you gonna do on them,,,

Quit whining. These are the only two top prospects in the area. I for one care much more about them than I do some future Elon College player.

A great and well-deserved honor. Congratulations to Elijah!

Actually, he could have gotten more ink if reporter Wertz had included him every time he earned it in the weekly recap of top performances, and this all-star appearance couldn't be overlooked. With all the good players around, though, the Observer has to work to give them all their due - and does well at that.
