Mallard Creek QB Williams: "I'm firm" with UNC

Mallard Creek quarterback Marquise Williams, a candidate for a national player of the year award, said he remains firm in his commitment to North Carolina, despite the NCAA investigation into the Tar Heels’ program.

Williams, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior, took an official visit to North Carolina for Saturday’s 21-17 win against William & Mary. He said he plans to graduate in December and enroll in college in January.

“As of right now, I’m firm in my commitment,” Williams said. “I know everybody is saying different and they’ve been calling and asking me, but I plan to sign with UNC.”

Williams has led the Mavericks to a 10-0 record and a national ranking in several polls. Mallard Creek is No. 3 in the Observer’s Sweet 16. In last week’s 76-30 win against West Charlotte, he Williams threw for six touchdowns and ran for another, accounting for more than 450 yards.

For the season, he’s thrown for 2,565 yards and 38 touchdowns. He’s rushed for 875 yards.

If they can drag this situation and the pending sanctions that will include loss of scholarships, TV appearances, and bowl appearances he will unfortunately believe everything Coach Davis and staff is telling him, that it's just an isolated incident of a few players being taken advantage by bad secret agent men and rougue stalker tutors. Enjoy your time at UNC-Cheat bud.

Is he going to visit State as has been rumored?

Anonymous said...

No. Thats just a pipe dream for you redneck trash

I think he should consider a real football program, like William and Mary.

UNC has not been served with the NCAA letter of inquiry, which is the initial step of an investigation into the program. You ABCers are all deep into wishful thinking. There will be no violations or sanctions.

To anon 6:07, Redneck trash? Wow all he asked was if he was going to visit, as "rumored" never once saying who he pulls for. Im sure that out of all the fans that pull for UNC, surely none could be considered redneck trash...

SMH...Come on guys, all that really matters is that this kid gets a good education. Lets hope that he does well no matter where he goes

Sounds like he likes the uniforms. His advisors should explain to him what NCAA sanctions could do to his career. Plus, the coaching staff may/should change. He could get buried without bowl/TV appearances. To not even consider the team with one of the best QBs in the nation is not smart. He could possibly step right in behind Wilson at State or maybe develop at Duke at the feet of Cutcliffe.

hope he likes paying for college and not playing in bowl games. seriously would you let BD step foot in your house and talk to your kids about his program after the mess he has gotten himself in?

as for the redneck trash comment, i got one thing to say to you:

Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Whoever is a prospect for UNC's new football coach next year has to like the sound of this.

lol... its funny how something like this brings out the worst in people. The kid has a right to go where he pleases without judgement. Get a life over zealous fans!

"VT fag", "UNC fag", "Redneck trash"??

What is it with you people?

Who cares what a Hokie fan says about the UNC fb program? I know a number of NC State grads and most every one of them are good people.

Tech is a one sport school. BB is just an activity until Coach Beamer has spring practice.
But...if they want to throw stones, it doesn't bother me.

I hope M. Williams attends UNC. Seems to be an exciting player, but if not, I believe Renner will be a positive replacement for Yates.

"AS OF RIGHT NOW, I'm firm in my commitment." What does that mean? Despite the spin put on by the O, that means that IN THE FUTURE he might change his mind. Good luck to the young man. Wherever he chooses to play, may his coaches put his interests before their own.

What part of "I plan to sign with UNC" don't you understand?

Anonymous said...

On election day, I will say that Marquise Williams was being politically correct by saying I'm going to sign with UNC even though we all know he's not!

Anonymous said...

Some people on here still won't believe Williams will stay at Carolina even after he enrolls in January! Until Marquise says otherwise he is a Tar Heel! I know it is eating up a lot of people out there, but UNC is still going to pull great recruits, is not going to be on probation and Butch will continue to build the best team in the ACC and one of the best in the nation. How does NC State's future look? I think the Woofies see the writing on the wall and it is a very light shade of blue. Go Heels!

Good luck riding the bench Marquise. Carolina already has top recruit Evertt Golson coming in from Myrtle Beach. As for the trash talking, UNC has a tough road ahead playing FSU and the Wolfpack. I suspect a sanction being handed down for agent's involvement with the players. USC got 2 years probation.

UNC is and always has been a joke in football. Besides being one of the worse fluff programs in America they get caught with their pants down on violations plus 90% of the student body and past graduates are homosexual or bisexual according to past inner collegiate behavioral records. Aids is rampant in the dorms and off campus.
Go to a real school like SC State Granbling or even A&T. Smaller schools like Smith and Livingstone would be fine.
State would be ok but no need for QBs.

Maybe he does love the color of Baby Blue and the Citadel is too structured for his taste. The opportunities for perks, trips, bling, meals, and cash are real and available, so why would he not believe the recruiting pitch? Let's just hope he is not too late signing this year to miss out on all the goody bags that are there for the picking. Good luck Mr. Williams, and remember to ask for these things including extra tutor help and paper writing by young, hot coeds, they will probably be a bit skittish in coming right out and offering, with all the heat and all around the program. Butch Davis is safe, they pay him too much to fire him and has the greatest coaching job ever to just walk away from it. You can do it!

UNC Chapel Hill will be on probation by spring. I suspect that kid will change his tune when he can't be in a bowl game.

If he sticks with UNC, at least he'll be able to spend Christmas with his family before the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
