Prep Basketball Roundup: Friday's scores, heroes

ELEVATOR

UP, Myers Park girls: 6-0 after Friday’s 61-15 win over Providence. Mustangs, No. 1 in the Sweet 16, got 11 points from Aliyah Mazyck and 10 each from Morgan Uptegraff and Saadia Timptonz

UP, Stephanie Butler: Former Butler High girls coach won her coaching debut at Rock Hill South Pointe Friday against Gaffney. Coach Butler led the Butler High Bulldogs to the 2010 state title and a national ranking.

UP, Ezinne Mbamalu, Lake Norman Charter girls: All-Mecklenburg star scored her 1,000th point Friday against Hough.

UP, Devin Parks, West Rowan: hit a game-winning shot against rival Northwest Cabarrus Friday.

UP, Gray Stone Day: Boys win over South Stanly ended a losing streak that goes back to the 2011 season.

Friday's Top Girls Performers

Sarah Billiard, Covenant Day: 17 points, 12 rebounds in 51-45 win over Gaston Christian. Sister Hannah Billiard had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Bailey Carter, Weddington: 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-29 win over Garinger. North Carolina recruit Stephanie Watts had 24 points for Weddington (5-2).

Evonna McGill, Gaston Day: 17 points, 11 rebounds in a 65-33 win over Burlington Christian

Mary Ritchie, Alexander Central: 16 points, 10 rebounds in 56-50 win over South Caldwell.

Shaigna Wentz, Porter Ridge: 20 points in 43-34 win over South Meck. Mary Quick had 10 for the Sabres.

Jatarie White, Providence Day:
18 points, six rebounds and five assists in a 48-33 win over Raleigh Ravenscroft on the road. The Chargers, No. 2 in the Sweet 16, play at Durham Academy Saturday at 2 p.m.

Friday's Girls Roundup

No. 4 Lake Norman Charter 59, No. 14 Hough 50: Alex Busch had 22 points and made 8-of-10 free throw attempts as Lake Norman Charter stopped Hough in overtime. Hough was outscored 18-0 in the second quarter, but rallied behind Julia Brown (20 points) and Kelsey Dean (11).

Friday's Top Boys Performers

Michael Baez, Charlotte United Christian: 18 points, seven assists in 76-71 win over Oakbrook Prep. Stefan Kostic had 12 points and six assists and Stephen Adams had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors (8-5) who lost 122-80 to Oakbrook last season.

Austin Dasent, Myers Park:
14 points, five rebounds, six assists in win over Providence. Teammate ZaQwaun Matthews had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Adam Durden, Charlotte Christian:
21 points in 59-43 loss to Fayetteville's Trinity Christian.

Devonte Fuller, Hickory: 27 points in a 73-58 loss to Statesville. Fuller had 45 in a loss to Newton-Conover Tuesday. Kender Thompson led Statesville with 24.

Andrew Guillot, Union Academy: hit game-winning shot in 53-51 win over Pine Lake Prep with three seconds left. He finished with nine points.

Luke Lawson, Grace Academy:
34 points, eight rebounds, two steals in a 94-83 win over GCAA. Juice Narusas had 16 points, 10 rebounds and threee assists.

Matt Morgan, Cox Mill: 33 points, three assists in 70-50 win over Hickory Ridge. Cox Mill is 5-1.

Charles Minlend, Concord First Assembly: 33 points in 87-56 win over Westminster Catawba.

Zaccheus Rorie, Forest Hills: 19 points, 12 rebounds for the sophomore point guard in a 80-75 win over Anson Senior. Terrance Huntley had 17 and 6-10 Michael Whitis had 18 for Forest Hills (2-0).

Patrick Tape’, Queens Grant: Second straight double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks) Friday.

Michael White, Country Day:
20 points, four steals in 71-51 win over Community School of Davidson.

Friday's Boys Roundup

Raleigh Ravenscroft 86, No. 1 Providence Day 83, 2 OT: The Chargers (6-1) were down seven with 60 seconds left and tied it with seven seconds left to force overtime. Providence Day missed a shot to win at the end of the first overtime and missed a shot to tie at the end of the second OT. Ravenscroft made 13-of-20 three-point shots. Jordan Watkins led the Chargers with 27 points. Grant Williams had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 5 Olympic 69, Hopewell 34:
The Trojans won their 34th straight game after jumping out to a 20-4 first quarter lead. Damari Parris had 14 points for Olympic, which also got 11 points from Malik Constantine and 10 from C.J. Jackson. Hopewell's Jerod Ellis had 13.

Country Day 71, Community School of Davidson 51:
Country Day outscored Community Schoool 19-9 in the first quarter and opened up a 37-21 halftime lead. Andy Salisbury (seven points, 11 rebounds) and Alex Owen (11 points, nine rebounds) were key players for the Bucs (3-4). Community School fell to 0-3.

Charlotte Latin 48, Durham Academy 47: A few days after scoring his 1,000th career point, Latin's Rusty Reigel made a buzzer-beating layup to give his team the win.

Sun Valley 59, Rocky River 48: Sun Valley (1-2) got its first win of the season, behind 21 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals from senior Daquan Moody. Sun Valley grabbed a 22-10 first quarter lead and never let up. Rocky River fell to 3-2.

South Meck 62 Porter Ridge 55: Jalen Blakeney had 22 points and Terrance Pearson 11 to pace the Sabres, who outscored Porter Ridge 21-14 in the fourth quarter. Caleb Hornseley had 27 points for Porter Ridge.
