Butler-Independence football playoff game moved to Memorial Stadium

Independence and Butler’s playoff game has been moved to Memorial Stadium.

The teams will meet in a second round N.C. 4AA game Friday. It’s a rematch of the Bulldogs 43-42 win at Independence Nov. 8. The teams combined for four touchdowns in the final three minutes.

That gave Butler a share of the Southwestern 4A conference championship with Rocky River. The Ravens, however, beat Butler head-to-head to earn the overall top spot.

Independence and Butler have a long history of postseason meetings, the last coming in the 2012 playoffs. Butler won 55-26.

Mecklenburg County athletics director Sue Doran said Memorial Stadium gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Kickoff is at 7:30. Tickets are $7.

If you have the same conference record as your opponent and you lost to them during the season then you don't get a share of the conference...you get second place.

They have a share b/c RR is in the 4A bracket and Butler is in the 4AA bracket. So they share the conference title b/c they are somewhat split divisions.

No they don't have a share because conference champs aren't distinguished by big and small 4A. A split conference is a conference with separate classifications (i.e. 4 and 3). Based on the NCHSAA the winner is decided based on conference record. If it is the same then it goes down to the head to head match up. Don't believe me? Look it up and wait and see which school gets a banner to hang up for next year.
