Northside Christian star Justin Gordon signs with Wofford

Northside Christian star Justin Gordon, a 6-foot-6 forward, signed with Wofford.

Gordon, MVP of December’s Hardwood Classic tournament at Bojangles’ Coliseum, averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. He helped Northside win the N.C. Independent Schools 2A state championship game and was named co-private school 2A state player of the year.

He’s the third Division I signee from his team, joining guard L.C. Cooks and forward Dionte Adams, who both signed with Hampton.

Had opportunities at Mallard Creek as he did at Northside. I guess everything Dinkins promised wasn't delivered...no surprise...He had offers from VMI when he was at Mallard Creek..Why would a kid choose Wofford over VMI??? VMI leads the nation in scoring and puts kids into the league...what has Wofford done?? Again, these private schools and their promises...

How do you know that the kid just did not want to go to VMI and that Wofford was just a better fit? Watching the kids that play for Dinkins the past two years, every single one of them would run through a wall for him. Oh and did I fail to mention that Gordon also will be wearing a state championship ring!!! Congrats Justin!!

Dinkins has delivered on improving players and the basketball program.
His record speaks for itself. Northside, the players and parents give him rave reviews. He demands and in turn treats players with respect. He sets a high level of expectation of the players on and off the court. He coaches from a holistic perspective (student, athlete, young man). He's getting great results and should be commended!

VMI and Wofford are both great academic institutions and anyone would be lucky to have the choice between two great but very different college experiences! Kudos to Gordon and those who were positive influences on him along the way!

Is the first comment a complaint about a child and his family chosing to leave CMS, particulary a school with multiple leadership turnovers in the basketball program and the school administration?

Gordon was a good player at Mallard Creed and developed into a more versatile, better player at Northside.

Is your negativity towards a coach whose team won their division state championship?

Are you upset about a coach who is building a great basketball program at a non-CMS school providing great academic and athletic options for families?

Are you really spouting negativity about a coach when the majority of the seniors under his leadership have D1 scholarships?

This was a positive article about a great STUDENT-athlete deciding where to play basketball at the next level.

Gordon, his choices or his Coach were derserving of your negativity.

For the record: Gordon had offers from Wofford, VMI, The Citadel, Presbyterian, Hampton, Gardner Webb, and New Hampshire not to mention interest from several other D1 Schools! Under NCA and Dinkins' watch, he has made tremendous strides on and off the court! Congrats JG, NCA, and Coach Dinkins!

For the record, Wofford has been to the post-season each of the last three years, including the NCAA tourney twice. They have a fine coach and a lot of young talent returning. With a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and several Rhodes scholars, Wofford is an outstanding educational institution as well. Gordon has made a great choice. If he works hard, he could have a lot of success at the next level.
